An Introduction to Ghana

Ghana is one of the most popular destinations to take a gap year in Africa. It is teeming with opportunities for backpackers and travellers, and it is a particularly popular country to volunteer in. There are a number of companies that offer volunteering programmes in Ghana, but the question is, why is it so popular?

Ghana is located in West Africa and it is a simply stunning country to travel around. One of the biggest attractions is the beautiful beaches; hundreds of kilometres of golden sand, aptly naming it 'the Gold Coast'. If you're looking to chillax in Ghana, then this is the place to do it.

The capital, Accra, is the commercial hub of the country and it is a great place to start any adventure in Ghana, whether that's travelling or volunteering. Clubbing is the thing to do in Accra; it is the birthplace of some of the country's most popular music, so put on your dancing shoes and get involved.

Ghana is a rapidly modernising country, especially when comparing it to surround countries, so if you're visiting West Africa, make sure you visit Ghana too.
