An Introduction to the Philippines

Situated between the Philippine Sea and the South China Sea, with Vietnam to the east, and Sabah and Borneo to the north, the Philippines is comprised of 7,107 islands which make up one of the world's largest and most beautiful coastlines. Known as a Catholic country since Spanish colonial times this country has a vast mix of ethnic groups, cultures and arts resulting in a unique cultural experience. Most of the nation's population resides on only 11 of the islands with Manilla being not just the capital but also the heart and soul of the country.

Due to frequent natural disasters, widespread poverty and civil rebellion the country is currently upgrading much of its infrastructure including transport systems, airports and expressways.

The Phillipines are a marine paradise and scuba divers will be mesmerized by the beautiful coral gardens, tropical waters and breathtaking marine life. There are also many white sandy beaches on which to laze away the days thriving entertainment scene can be found in cities such as Boracay and Manilla.
