Fundraising for travelling and volunteering

A gapper's photography exhibition raises funds for those affected by the recent tsunami...

Fundraising: a photography exhibition

Courtesy of Bei LiPhotographer Bei Li was so shocked by the devastation caused by the Boxing Day tsunami that she decided to arrange an exhibition of her photography to raise funds for redevelopment projects in the affected regions.

The exhibition consists of images from Thailand following her travels there in November 2004 and is entitled 'Wish you would come visit...' This is Bei's way of raising awareness that the local people of Thailand - and all countries affected by the tsunami - now need our help more than ever to rebuild their lives. The best way that we can do this is by returning to the affected regions.

Courtesy of Bei LiBei says "I left Thailand three weeks before the tsunami, it was horrible watching the news and seeing images of the familiar places I had been to completely destroyed. The main aim of this exhibition is to show people how wonderful these places were and will be again one day.

Most of these places were once thriving tourist destinations, the local people need the support of visitors now more than ever. I fell in love with Thailand, the local people showed me kindness and made my trip extra-special. I want to show my appreciation by giving something back, I hope this exhibition will."

All prints displayed at the exhibition are for sale and all money raised will be going to the British Red Cross for the future preparation and prevention of such disasters.

The 'Wish you would come visit...' exhibition runs from 7th March to the 2nd April at the Phoenix Art Centre, Exeter, Devon.
