Who are we and what do we do?
Gapyear.com is the original gap year social network and a travel advice website based in the United Kingdom. Built around a travel community, our members engage in the site through blogs, events, messageboards and photos. Also, we provide advice, ideas and opportunities on everything related to gap years and backpacking, including information on planning your trip, destinations, volunteering, and working abroad.
- We are the world's largest gap year social network. Our members are predominately 16-24 year-olds, but nearly 40% of our members are aged 25 and above, so we capture a major share of a highly lucrative market estimated to be worth over £11bn.
- The annual UK gap year market is estimated at 250,000 young travellers, 90,000 career-breakers and a further 200,000 retirees.
- Our content is simple and easy to read. Our content producers have been there and done it; they've seen the world, and this comes across in their writing. They give the best advice available and they complement the gap year community.
- Also, we provide social media content of the highest possible standard and are editorially independent. We have a social media strategy and use the majority of social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube and Google+.
- Though primarily a website, we also publish in print, on mobile platforms (and expect video to be an increasingly important part of our content offering). We are a primary gateway to over a £1 billion-plus annual spend in the UK outbound gap year travel market.
