This placement would suit... anyone looking to work with children, feel they are doing something constructive and enjoy amazing surroundings Teaching & Projects Abroad can arrange a Care & Community placement for you in mother nature's own masterpiece, Chile. The work can be quite varied but is often centred around working in Kindergardens and assisting the staff there. Anything which could provide some human-interaction for the children and take the pressure off of the staff is exactly what the work is about. Many of the centres we work with have nearly 200 children and only 10 members of staff to cope with very young children. Volunteers in the past have done very well by teaching nursery rhymes or playing children’s games. Most of the institutions devote some of the afternoons to sport and so that is another really worthwhile area to become involved with. Chile also offers many opportunities for travel during your free-time. In fact a human artist could not have imagined such beautiful landscapes of immaculate wilderness. Chile proudly plays host to the world’s driest desert and longest mountain chain, as well as the largest ice sheet outside of the polar regions. Furthermore, the people are famous in Latin America for their ability to cope with adversity and affection. This may be down in no small part to their magnificent wines or ona-crema (a very agreeable mixture of brandy, coffee liquor and whipped cream). Once you have tried these delights you will instantly know how to survive the winter’s cold temperatures very pleasantly indeed! Throughout your time though you will have a personal supervisor at work and the full support of our local staff and office in Chile. Our users say..."The way the toddlers faces lit up when we arrived each morning will be something I’ll never forget. I’d never worked with toddlers before and was pretty nervous, but from the second I walked in they were overwhelmingly affectionate towards me." - Stephanie Harrington
