  This placement would suit... anyone who is after 8 weeks in India's hottest places, namely the desert of Rajasthan and the beaches of Goa. You'll do community work interspersed with cultural fun, city visits and relaxation.

This project provides the perfect opportunity to combine a volunteer work in the desert and close to the beach! The first 4 weeks will be spent in the Rajasthan desert and 4 weeks by the beautiful beaches of Goa.

You have a choice of India volunteer placements to choose from including working in schools, childcare centres, AIDS shelter and in an orphanage. There are plenty of opportunities to experience the culture and to explore these fascinating locations. The programme includes yoga workshops, a camel safari and plenty of opportunities for beach time and parties!

Programme itinerary at a glance:

  • Day 1 Personally met at Delhi Airport
  • Day 2-5 Transfer to Jaipur for Orientation and sightseeing, Amber Fort visit and homestay with local English speaking family
  • Day 5 Train to Shiv, the Rajasthan desert
  • Day 6 Arrival in Shiv; Introduction to the Area
  • Day 7 Relax
  • Day 8-12 Start volunteer placement
  • Day 13-14 Weekend
  • Day 15-19 Volunteer placement continues- Yoga Workshop
  • Day 20-21 Camel Safari

  • Day 31 Farewell and Departure for Jaipur by over night train
  • Day 32 Arrival in Jaipur; Day at leisure

  • Day 37-40 Volunteer placement starts (choose from working in a childcare centre, special education camps for disadvantaged children or computer education to groups of local women and adolescent girls)

  • Day 43-47 Volunteer placement continues
  • Day 48-49 Weekend free to party, sunbathe and relax
  • Day 50-54 Volunteer placement continues
  • Day 55 Departure for Mumbai
  • Day 56 Arrival into Mumbai and fly back home or continue travelling

Please note: You need to fly into New Delhi and depart from Mumbai. If you are planning on doing some independent travel after the programme, then obviously plan your returned journey from the airport of your choice.

Project Location

Weeks 1-4 You will be based in Shiv a small town in the Rajasthan desert.

Weeks 5-8 You will be based close to Colva in Goa on the west coast of India. Colva is one of the most spectacular of south Goa’s beaches.

Accommodation & Meals

Rajasthan: Your accommodation is unique – a comfortable and clean mud hut with en-suite bathroom! All meals are served in the restaurant area, buffet style.

Goa: You will live in basic shared accommodation 2 km from the beach with simple bathrooms and western toilets. The food is amazing and there is plenty of it. It mainly consists of vegetable curries, Indian breads and fruit.
