This placement would suit... those who want to care for abandoned or sick children in Moldova.

This is a demanding yet rewarding placement for those who want to care for abandoned or sick children. Volunteers will spend their time interacting with the orphaned children, while also experiencing Moldovan life and culture in the capital of the country, Chisinau.

Children are always the most vulnerable. One of the goals of this project is to give the children a sense of self worth and to provide a creative outlet that they otherwise would not have. Your help as a volunteer in Moldova is needed to offer the children with love, attention and the knowledge that someone cares about them.

The Volunteer Project

You may choose to work in either a rehabilitation centre for young children of 0-5 years or a boarding school with an older age group of 7-14 years or help out at both.

The Small Children’s Rehabilitation Centre
The centre is home to 200 children between 0 and 5 years old, some of whom are mildly or severely physically handicapped.

Volunteer activities include:

  • Counsel and help with feeding
  • Assist with bath time and dressing
  • Cooking and cleaning

  • Teach and encourage development through play
  • Read, sing and play with the children
  • Assist in the children’s developmental stages
  • Help the staff, assisting with the various activities
The Boarding School
The school has around 300 children aged between 7 and 14.

Volunteer activities include:

  • Teach English
  • Group games, board games, painting and creation workshops, music, drama, dance
  • Team building activities
  • Help create marketing to promote the project
  • Produce a  “volunteer diary” for future volunteers
  • Take photos for a photo album for the children

Project Location

Chisinau, the capital of Moldova

Accommodation and Meals

You will stay in a very comfortable, shared volunteer house outside Chisinau, in a nice village called Gratiesti, a half an hour bus ride from Chisinau.

Two meals per day are provided, breakfast and dinner.

Our Users Say

Name: Paul Booth

Programme: Moldova Orphanage

Dates: 4th May 23rd May

How did you feel before you joined the programme?

Any Questions that I had I felt that I could ask and they were answered in a clear and concise way. Daniela was a great help and I felt confident and excited to go and work there.

What did you think of the programme?

The programme as a whole was all that I wanted it to be. I loved working at Salvati Copiii, the orphanage, because there was only 14 or 15 kids so I could get to know each one individually, which suited me just fine.

There were so many memorable moments for me. I loved the City and the food and the general warmth and kindness showed from the Moldovan people.

How have you benefited from your experience?

I think I would have to say I've gained a different outlook on life and perspective. Working with the kids, who were brilliant by the way really gave me pleasure, seeing them have fun and I'm thank full that they let me be a small part of their lives.
