It’s recommended that you get immunised against hepatitis A, typhoid and malaria. You’ll also need immunisation against yellow fever, and meningitis too if you’re going to certain areas at certain times. Phew!

There have recently been reports of an outbreak of cholera in the outskirts of Cotonou, and an outbreak of tuberculosis. Waterborne diseases are prevalent, as is malaria (take precautions against mozzies). HIV/AIDS is also a big problem.

Medical facilities are poor, particularly in rural areas.
