All stories have to start somewhere/sometime but rarely are they the beginning.
The start of my story is here, 24 hours before I fly to Ghana, at my house in Sussex. I packed on Tuesday (well actually my Mum packed because I am rubbish at getting so much stuff into a small bag!!) I have completed all those last minute tasks and bought some gifts for the school I am going to help at. I am flying tomorrow (19th Feb) from Heathrow to Accra, the Ghanaian capital. The project will lasts 5 weeks and consits of building and teaching at school in a village in the Volta region. I havent met any of the other people on the project yet, but that makes it all the more exciting.
The story really begins last March, when I lost a Student Union election, and suddenly found myself with an unexpected gap-year. I looked around for a project, and was told about Madventure, through their website I read about the host of opportunities they offer. I wanted to go to Africa and when I discovered the Ghana project could be linked with a trip to Timbuktu I signed up.
I graduated Brookes with a 2:2 in law and in September will start a PGCE Primary course.
From June to October I lived in the USA and coached youth football (the round sort mistakenly called soccer!), I worked in Ohio and Maryland on summer camps (I have worked for Challenger in 9 states over the last 3 summers). For the 3 months of the Fall I lived in Cincinnati where I coached teams in a league.
A quick stint working at Littlewoods and then selling phones for TMobile and we get to the start of the story, which just happens to be on my 22nd Brithday!
24 hours and I will be on the plane- Bring It On!
aww how sweet. 8O
