hey
i just got back from the slipper island boogie, which was amazingly cool :) basically 30 skydivers rented out a private island on the coromandel, flew out by helicopter and jumped out of a porter all weekend… obviously i didn’t jump, the whole still being on crutches thing is a bit of a flaw, but it was still very cool… there were only a few of us not jumping so me and kirsty (girl doing AFF, she broke her shoulder in freefall- not ideal!) ended up with our own private beach on a tropical island and all was good, although the odd rude skydiver swooped past us every now and then, which is quite a bizarre concept hehe
crutches and beaches are quite a comical combination, sea and crutches are even more comical ( didn’t go swimming though, one of the jumpers is a doctor, so we could ask all kinds of stupid questions about what would cause us pain- apparently it’s not a good idea to go horseriding/ swimming/ kayaking when you have a broken pelvis- you learn something new every day hehe) obviously i would rather have been jumping, but i still had a really good time… i’ve got loads of cool pics, i’ll try and upload them in the next few days (i’ll go for an adventure to an internet cafe, so i don’t have to put up with crappy dial up computers…)
we were meant to come back on sunday but we got stuck in a cyclone and were given the option of spending $200 to get airlifted by helicopter or to stick it out on the island… everyone was being melodramatic and claiming we’d be there for at least a week, but 6 of us stayed anyway (if i’m going to be sitting around not doing very much, i may as well be on a cool island in a cyclone hehe)... as it happened we managed to have a gap in the weather for long enough to get out, so that kind of ended the adventure, but it was all good fun, being on a random island in the middle of nowhere, we didn’t have much food left, but there was lots of beer, so it would have been ok lol…
so anyway, that was my adventure for the last few days… apart from that i’ve generally been hanging out at the DZ complaining about not being able to jump. i think i’ll hang around for a few weeks until i’m off the crutches and then head off to pastures new… i’ll probably get one of the tourist buses around NZ for a week or two, hang around at helens for a while and then head over to Oz and see what happens…
on a more emotionally scarring note, i only have 2 weeks left of being a teenager and my birthday is probably gonna suck cos i’m living on a dz in the middle of nowhere, don’t have all that much money and can’t walk- good times!
