Jesus you guys work so much! Im desperate to get extra hours at work, but stingey M&S wont give me any extra cause they arent making the profits at my shop! Little poops!
Do you guys reckon its a good idea to try and get a bar job? Cause all ive got is 5 years of sales work behind me. And with only working 19hrs a week, im free for about 5 days of the week right now during summer break. I was thinking it would be a good idea to get some bar work in my pocket so it might be a little easier to get jobs when i go travelling. (Although im not going travelling till i finish uni.. thats in 2011..!)
But thanks to all you guys for you tricks of the trade!

I think a good pointer for people saving is to calculate your basic wage per month. Then to add together your musts that you need every month. Things like petrol, rent, food etc. Calculate an average for all this per week and obviously times this by 4. Take that away from your basic wage for the month to see whats left. Then you can figure out how much you can put aside per month straight into savings.
Also if you work any extra shifts, you shold put that straight into savings too, just treat those shifts like little saving boosts!
I did this last night, and i reckon its gonna work, but we’ll see!

Also.. ive been taxed a lot recently from work, and being a student that is by far.. WRONG! So i plan to phone the Tax Revenue and get my money back :D all of that will go into savings!

Oooh, I can feel your pain on that one. Last financial year I was taxed £700 too much. I’ve been trying to phone them for days, and they keep you on hold forever (on 0845 numbers which cost 20p per minute) and I still haven’t got through to get my cash back!!

Oh dear that doesnt sound to good!
I intend to phone them tomorrow, as i was nicely informed by a robotive woman over the phone “our opening hours are 8am to 8pm weekdays” so fingers crossed! Its only about £90 to reclaim for about 6 months, but hey every little bit helps!

I sold my car 2 months earlier than expected so no petrol to pay for, no car taxes, repairs and bills to pay for and the amount of money I have saved is phenomenal. I have been able to save about £1200 a month. Plus walking to work is great in the Summer time. I just wish I could stop going out at the weekends - it would help me save even more.

just been reading tips on saving. im just back from a month is SE Asia now want to save till next june & take career break from work & go away for 6 months. its just so hard as i have flat, car & social life. i find it boring going to the pub watching friends drink & sitting with water. i cant resist sales so decided im not going to enter any shops that sell shoes or clothes for next 2 months & see if i manage should save some £ that way. with everything going up apart from my wages god knows how im going to manage to escape for 6 months but iv got determination

Ive barely been out at all this whole month. I know it sounds boring, but ive saved shit loads.
Plus im getting the odd extra shift from work. Ive noted down on my calander, that way i know what how much extra ive earned, and i can put all that into savings.

Luckily i still live at home and only pay £55 a month as “rent” lol. But ive been informed it going up. But i think im gonna manage it ok.

The thing i really dont want to do when uni eventually starts in September, is that i dont want to get a student loan. Ive been at college for 3 years, and managed to avoid getting a loan. But im beginning to think ill need a loan for uni. I reckon its gonna be more expensive :( Ill just have to see how it goes!

Im the same, i havent spent stupid money on magazines and food i dont need.. sort of good for the weight! haha!
Ive taken note of my average pay and all that and hopefully i can save plenty over summer. Dont know what the situation is gonna be though when uni starts again. I dont know whether to chance it without getting a loan and hope that i can manage without one, but then id like to have one just incase i do need more money than i think ill require just to fall back on. Its so tricky!

At least if i get a loan, and dont touch it too much, i can pay it back straight away and just add on what ive used i guess. Instead of having to worry about paying it back when i start earning a certain amount.

The stresses!!

magazines! thats the first thing i noticed i stopped buying when i decided i wanted to do rtw trip and now i cant believe how much i was spending on them! plus most of the time your mates end up buying the same ones so you could just read theirs!lol!

Another thing that helps is, and im quite lucky that i have a place so my friends come round mine on weekends so we still have a drink and a laugh but cheaper! And you can choose the music etc which you cant in the pub lol!

lambrini tastes so much sweeter when you know the money your saving by not spending the usual £10 on a bottle of wine is going towards an extra night out abroad!

yes, yes you do! i sit around all day, doing research, just got a pay rise and a secure job when i get back. Do my work in about and hour in the morning, and sit around all day, and do all the odd jobs as and when they trickle in. Hard work when i do work, but great getting paid for nowt, and getting paid well! lol
