Hiya! I’m going to be travelling at the same time.
I’m starting with East and Southern Africa from Sept/Oct to Jan/Feb
Then Jan/Feb 2013 I’ll be doing SE Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore) for 6 months then onto Oz.

Which places are you interested in?
Do you have any sort of budget in mind?

SE Asia is a must for me too, also Oz.

I’m planning on at least £8000 for the year (that might have to include some of the Africa costs too).

Are you mainly looking at volunteering? I looked into it but I’m not convinced a lot of them are helpful, maybe WWOOFING!

£8000 sounds about right really, and no, the volunteerings just an idea, id have to look into it a bit more tbh.
basically im just wanting to get away from england, and experience all i can before i have any commitments which stop me :)

I’d love to go in 2013 but I’ll still be studying :( I might go the year after as long as I’ve saved up enough! Definitely go to SE Asia, although I’m saying this because it’s quite high up on my list of places to travel!

I’m the same, I wish I could just jet off now (I’m about to finish University) but I don’t have the money!

How would you miss your chance? You can travel no matter what your age in my opinion :) as long as you have the passion and enthusiasm for it, then all you need is to save up and go :D

Hello!

I plan on doing a rtw trip starting in Jan 2013. My current plan is to head around SE Asia then on to Australia to work, then New Zealand followed by USA and Canada. Nothing is set in stone though. I’ll be 22 when I leave.

Starting in USA for about 5 weeks then onto Canada for a year after that road trip through America down to South America then over New Zealand for a year then onto South East Asia

Definately better to spend a few extras months back home just making sure you’ve got enough cash for your trip plus maybe a grand or more spare emergency money ‘just in case’ (or, to keep as your cash to come home to!)

The only things you need to go travelling are money and the passion/commitment for your trip.
If it is your first time, you also need a lot of guts to take the plunge and just go. Especially for those who are older, leaving homes and families/divorce behind!
But now i’ve been once, i wouldn’t think twice about chucking my job in and going again…and i’m so pleased i now have that mentality =)

Travelling is such an amazing thing, and to be honest, only those who have done it, can really understand it. You’ll understand what i mean when it’s your turn =)

Saying all that, i’m thinking 2013 may be the year for my second trip. Absolutely no plans yet, but India/Nepal/Burma etc would most likely be my plan of action.
