Hi!!
I am thinking of going to Oz and New Zealand but I don’t know which one to work in. I will have to work in one of them to get money. Are there jobs in NZ? Is is worth getting working visas for both countries? I think my heart is saying go to NZ and my head is saying Oz so I don’t know what to do.
:?
Any suggestions please???

Hey! I’m in the same situation, and am swaying more to getting a job in Oz rather than NZ purely because from what I’ve been reading Oz has a slightly higher cost of living so I’ll probably need the extra cash whilst I’m there!
When are you looking to go?

Yeah thats what I have heard NZ for travelling and Oz for work but I’m just unsure now what I want to do. Where abouts you going? I’m thinking November Dec time so I really have to my act in gear. When you thinking of going? Are you travelling in NZ?
Why don’t you do both, get one visa from here then if you decide you want to stay away for longer, get the other one whilst you are away!
Thats what I ended up doing! but if you have to chose one, I’d say that it is a lot easier to find work in Australia, and to get your tax back once you leave, (I got about £1000 when I got home :D ) but the people you will mweet and work with in New Zealand will be so much better and a little bit like a family…
I know this doesn’t help but I thought I would give you another option!
If you want some ideas of what to get up to in New Zealand and Oz, I am in the process of writing of up my blogs on www.travelpod.com/members/sam.bewitching which is a really good blogging site by the way, you know for keeping in touch when you are away.
Whatever you decide to do you’ll have a great time
Hey! I agree with the above. Why not do both? If u only pick one I would personally pick Oz but everyone is different.
To work I’d go for Australia. Personally I think there are more jobs out there. To travel I’d choose New Zealand.
As everyone else has said you could try both!
Just saw these posts now sorry. Thanks a mil for the responses. I’m thinking of working in Oz and travelling in Nz like ye said. exciting…
I didn’t have any problems finding work in Australia. Try and get a job in a roadhouse, lots of money and a unique experience. It didn’t seem like there were quite as many job opportunities in NZ though. I’d only go for one work visa either way since then you have the option to come back and work in the other country.
I would say work in OZ, because you should also take into account the situation in Christchurch at the moment. A lot of people there have lost their jobs, homes, education etc with redevelopment apparently happening at a snail pace, so people may be leaving there to look elsewhere around the country for work and somewhere safer to live etc.
This will most likely mean that finding work is harder in NZ. They may even be letting less WHV in because of it, I guess they have to support their own folks first with jobs. But that’s just me speculating!
So i’d go and work in OZ, then travel NZ and that’ll help their economy a little too! =)

This.
I made this exact post a couple of months ago when I first started thinking about going so I can relate!
I’ve decided to go to Oz first (I’m really tempted to do a year in NZ afterwards) as I have a lot of friends who are already there as well as family dotted around if I ever needed them which is a big safety net on such an adventure! I’m sure nothing will happen but it’s nice to know just in case.
I’ve also heard the job situation is slightly better in Australia.
That being said I’d love to go back to NZ as well, so will probably end up there afterwards anyway…
When are you going? x
