I was just wondering if anyone has done this.. whether for a semester, year or the whole degree. I want to do it for a semester in my second or third year through ERASMUS, but I’m slightly apprehensive as I don’t know another language.

If anyone could share their experiences that would be great :)

I have just done a semester abroad through Erasmus. Seriously best time of my life! I highly highly recommend it!
I went to Ireland, so that reduced the language-problem for me, although I come from the Netherlands, so speaking English all the time was still quite a challenge.

As long as you’re not fixated on going to the southern european countries you’ll still be fine. If you look at Germany, the Netherlands or the scandinavian countries (and probably others as well) lots of universities offer English courses. And better, the native students aren’t afraid to speak english as well. Most erasmus students from all nationalities mix anyway and communicate in English, so you’ll have an advantage over almost everyone else. And the whole mixing and meeting students from other places is the fun part of doing a semester abroad.

When I talk to my friends who also went on erasmus to Lund and Berlin, it’s the same everywhere. Really really great fun and an amazing time!!

I did an Erasmus year! But I chose to do the british council assistantship instead of studying at a university because I wanted to earn money instead of doing more exams. Best decision ever. I had the most incredible year and ended up postponing my studies for a year so I could stay in France. Going back this September and really would prefer to stay here :( but needs must n all that. Anyways yes do erasmus! and there are more options than only studying. X
