Wow,
I am loving this forum, it has just cranked my excitement up another notch! 31 year old here and its refreshing to see I wont just be surrounded by “the young crowd” lol. I am leaving in October and this week it has all really started to become real to me, a kind of “this is actually happening” sort of feeling. Now when I look around at other people, they all seem so boring and robotic! A clear sign to me that I have made the right decision. Still got plenty to sort out and the nerves will continue, but bring it on!!
Martin.
Hi Martin
It’s suddenly sunk in for me this week too as it’s now only 98 days until we go and once we hit the 100 day mark it became real!!!
Deffo making the right decision, I’ve only got a few weeks to go until I had my notice in now and can start telling people- it’s difficult not to talk to people at work about the biggest thing going on in my life!
Good luck with your planning :)

Hey all,
Reading these posts is making me very scared and nervous about how much I have to do before I leave.
Also now ive recently booked my flights Im beginning to tell people and the more people I tell the more it becomes real!
Also I changed my status on here….and then it gave me a countdown and that was a real shocker!
I still cant actually believe im going…and thats its booked!
At the moment im more scared than excited but am hoping this will change!

Hi Victoria
When are you off?!!
It does make it more real when you can tell people doesn’t it! When I started telling my friends it became more real but it’s died off a bit now because neither of my jobs know…. come mid August when I hand in my notice here at my full time job it will all sink in again because I will be talking about it more etc eeeeeeeeeeeek.
It’s natural to be scared, I’ve had moments of panic but these are soon overtaken by excitedness.

Hey Hannahjquade,
Im off on the 29th November to Fiji for 2 weeks, then to the east coast of oz upto Sydney, then over 2 new zealand for 2 months then back to Sydney to complete the rest of Oz then to Thailand to finish off….(if I have any money left that is!) So scared but getting more nervous mixed with excitement. I hand my notice in only 4 weeks before but because Iapplied for a career break and it got rejected people kinda found out so had to let people know.Wish I ve just kept it quiet till I handed my notice in! Just thought I’d update anyone who still might be reading this thread….
I handed in my notice on Monday. My boss already knew that I was doing it but the rest of my team were totally shocked!!! Everyone has been so supportive and thinks it’s a brilliant thing to do and they all want to know about my plans before I go and whilst I am there.
Such a big relief to have it all finally out in the open…. oh apart from at my part time second job who don’t know yet haha.
Hope everyone is well :)

Love this thread!!! I don’t leave for my travels until next May but already I’m thinking about the day I can hand in my notice. I’ve told some work colleagues privately but the majority have no idea about my plans and it’s sooooo hard keeping it from them. All the posts on here have really put my mind at ease cos I’ve been worried about how to do it and the reaction I will get but reading all these posts I am now sure that my bosses and work colleagues will be shocked but really happy for me (well fingers crossed!).
I’m kinda in that in between place whereby I know I am going away and I am putting plans into place but because it feels like ages away and work don’t officially know so feels like I’ve lost a bit a momentum. But I have set myself milestones and I know that every time I reach one then I’m one step closer to starting my trip!
It was also reassuring to see the high number of ‘older’ folk setting of on their travels. I’ll be 29 by the time I leave and it’s been a worry for me but again this thread has reassured me so thank you everybody!!!
I know this thread is back in May/Aug so I’m sure that everybody who posted something is probably well into their travels by now so hope you are all having a fab time!!
Thank you!! Hopefully this thread helps others who are in the same position :)

I’ve only just seen this reply…. We’ve been away for just over 3 months now and are having the time of our lives! Best decision we ever made!!! You really won’t regret it!! On our travels we’ve mostly met people similar aged to us which has been great, it might be because we’ve chosen to stay different places and do different things to people who are a bit younger but it’s resassuring to know that there are so many of us about haha. We’ve written a blog:

if uou want to have a look for any tips etc that may be useful to you :)
Good luck for your trip!!!
