The fashion world has lost an icon! :-(
Bin Laden - Dead
Saddam - Dead
Gadaffi - Dead
I wonder if Kim Jong is feeling a little wonely?
Anyone else think the whole ‘people queuing around the block then wandering round the white meat locker to see Gadhafi’s body’ thing grimly resembles some kind of macabre concept art show?
Not a great difference between that and Lenin’s body on display in Moscow, or the bits of Bentham left in Uni College London. I guess it depends on your thoughts on death.
If I had been victim to a dictator or whatever, I’d probably want to see the body myself, just to know he was dead and it wasn’t a hoax etc. I dunno, maybe I’ve just become numb to the ‘creepiness’ of death after around 20 funerals in my 25 years. :(
I’ve never been a victim of a dictator, but I think I’d still be interested in seeing his body. I’ve obviously watched too many Final Destination, Hostel and Saw movies.
Amazing how you can go from all-powerful to people queuing to see your body in a meat locker in just a few months.

How the hell have you been to so many funerals? Just bad luck, or did you know a whole sports team that died in a bus crash or something?
Re Gaddhafi, the man was evil, no doubt, and i hate fascists, but give me the fashion of a totalitarian over a hippie liberal any day. And gaddafi had style.
There exists a life energy or force beyond and within all. Funerals are a time of remembrance, but the body is merely a shell which houses us for a short while. Once we pass over, it matters not what we do with the shell.
5, 25 or 255 funerals matter not. Rebirths continue until one consciously confronts all pre-birth, current-life, and previous-life traumas. I myself have died many times, but know that one day I shall be thetan, and one with all those I have known in my many lives. Do not mourn the dead, be thankful for they have learned one more lesson…

Pretty much how I feel about death - the theological stuff is a matter for debate.
Lots of funerals because my parents are the youngest in their families, so they have older siblings/parents/relatives who have died and my parents didn’t want to shelter me from the reality of life, so I attended funerals from age 4.
Thinking about it, people do tend to die around me a lot. Someone died on a plane I was on last month, after I’d had a premonition a few weeks earlier that someone was going to pass away during my trip. Perhaps I carry a curse… ;)
What amazes me about all these uprisings is why it has taken so long. Why now? Why not 10 years ago? And what effect will this have long term. Democracy is obviously what people want, but there will always be people who are unhappy - hence extremist groups etc.
I don’t know enough about Libya to make a judgement on the entire situation but I just hope that in the meantime the country stabilises so the people who just want ‘normal’ lives can have that, and that the next country to try to overrule their dictator isn’t subject to such a great deal of horrific suffering to do so. (Did you read the story about the hospital in Tripoli? Horrifying).
when your dead your dead you go nowhere imo.
He did deserve to die after the war against his own people.
But he was no worse than bush, Blair or many other leaders of the world recent past and present
we will find out soon if Libya is better off without strict rule.

Lexi can you warn, I mean let me know if you are going to the gapyear meet up before I book my train tickets haha.

haha, are you serious?
do we actually have a real scientologist on Gapyear?

Gapyear welcomes all faiths.
Or do we? Hang on, I’ll have to check…

Even dangerous cults who force members by means of blackmail to cut off all communication with their families?
What does everyone think? Is scientology a cult? Does that mean scientologists shouldn’t be able to chat about travel? Should we ban them from gapyear.com?
I think talking about religion on a travel forum is asking for trouble and perhaps it might be wise to steer the conversation elsewhere?
Everyone has their own beliefs, non-beliefs or indecisions and if they’re keen to talk about travel and aren’t trolls then I say the more the merrier.
And Daisy, yes I’ll let you know if I ever plan to attend any get togethers so you can avoid me and my death curse :S

HAHA thanks for that.
On the religion note Im going to throw in the phrase ‘one persons terrorist is anothers freedom fighter’. Very hard to give a genralist rule of thumb about who should or shouldnt be accepted. Other than accepting everyone regardless of religion- as long (as Lexi said) they arent a troll!
