Hey,
Iv just finished a 2 month trip around South East Asia and because I loved it that much Im looking to be going back to Thailand in Feb 2012. I was just wondering if any one has any advice on looking for paid work over there Im open to anything really but I suppose bar work as ideally I would look for something on the cost close to a beach.
Any advice would be much appreciated

Well if you work in a bar then you are just doing a job that a local can do, so you would be taking jobs away from locals. Which in a country like Thailand its not a good thing. Try looking into English teaching. That way you are giving back to society!

James is right, but just to add to that you cannot legally do a job in Thailand that a Thai person can do. That’s why pretty much the only two jobs that foreigners can do in Thailand are:

1) Teaching English all over the country (or another language like French/Chinese/Japanese etc in Bangkok).

2) Teaching scuba diving in English.

For the first one, you need a degree. For the second one you need all the relevant qualifications and some experience. Do you have any of these things? If not you have a snowball’s chance in hell of working in Thailand legally (especially close to a beach, as you say).

I have met a handful of foreigners ‘working’ behind bars in SE Asia, in fact I did it myself for a bit. They don’t get paid cash for this though, they are usually friends and are helping out in return for some free drinks or food or lodging.

The only non teaching/scuba diving jobs I have seen people do is promotional bar jobs i.e. handing out flyers, getting people into bars and that was in Phi Phi and like mentioned before was paid in accomodation. Someone I know got paid 200 Baht a night.
