Planning a trip to fiji next year and was wandering how much I need to budget for general spending each day… I’m thinking of doing a week at a homestay and then a week or so island-hopping…
Any advice woudl be great… thanks…

Hiya,

i spent about 3 weeks in fiji last april, such a beautiful place and you really can not fault the people - very friendly.

Island hopping eh? i would get straight on that boat if i were you, there is nothing on the main island of Nadi, unless you go down to the coral coast you wont find white sand and clear sea. Get out of the main island asap if you want that picture postcard beach and relaxation.

Be prepared to spend a heck of a lot on the boat. The is one main boat service which stops off at all the islands, just trying to remember how many stops there are, i think around 20 different places you can go to. I went up to the furthest stop, the Yasawa Islands. Go there, i dont think anywhere was as good looking as those islands. It is about a 4 and a half hour journey but the best is furthest away from Nadi.

Im just trying to remember how much the boat cost, think it was 150-200 pounds up to the yasawa islands and return, but i would spend it all over again. i stayed at a place called The Blue Lagoon, stay there. Food is all included and the rooms are amazing and clean. you do share with about 6 other people but who cares, your all so chilled out there. evening things to do and everything is so personal, met some great people.

Food and drink is a little pricey depending on where you go, i would say its a little more expensive than living in thailand.

The biggest tip i can give you is stay in the cheap hostels, the people who own them are so great and really take care of you. spend all the big bucks going to yasawa islands and staying in blue lagoon, there is nowhere else on earth like it, i just couldnt fault them. coral ref right there, seeing the local village and films on the beach. i miss fiji!
