Backpacking First - Proof of Funds?

Im considering travelling to Canada under a WHV next year - however Im interested in the possibilty of doing this as part of a Round the World trip.

I’d like to do SE Asia & New Zealand for a few months before arriving in Canada.

Problem is - the Canadian High Commission states that your Proof of Funds/Bank Statement must be issued a week before your arrival in Canada - how is this possible for people who wont be near their bank in the weeks (or even months) before arriving in Canada? Online statements arent proper copies so obviously this wont cut it - so whats the solution?

Speak to your bank, see if they are able to get you statements to where ever you are, perhaps they have branches worldwide? Otherwise you may have to get them to send your statement to your home address and then have it sent by courier, DHL or something, via express service… problem you might have is with NZ being so far away it is no doubt going to take some days to get to you. It would probably be easier if it was being sent to USA…

There will obviously also be some delay of the statement being printed and delivered to your house in UK… it takes my bank 3 days to get a statement printed and delivered to branch. I have no idea what date is actually printed on the statement itself. The 7 day limit is a ridiculously short amount of time!!! They should have made it 2 weeks at least but really it should have been a month!

The bank may be able to email a scanned copy if your lucky, or you could ask your parents at the address it is delivered to to scan and email to you for you to print

Seems a strange requirement as statements requests out of the usual monthly sink generally come with a charge

I very much doubt scans will be good enough, you will need the originals.

Having said that, I’ve read on multiple threads now that the immigration officers don’t even look at the proof of income or insurance, just the LOI, but it’s up to you whether it’s a risk you are willing to take.
