Hi, I’m looking for a travel buddy for 2 months to travel Australia starting jan 2013. I have posted before but thought I’d start a new topic as plans have slightly changed!
I quite fancy doing Sydney to cairns, Melbourne, Brisbane etc but am totally flexible on plans! The reason i’monly doing 2 months is because I’m meeting a friend in new Zealand for 4 weeks at the end of march. Obviously any travel buddies are welcome to join us in new Zealand also!
The rough plan after that is to either stay in new Zealand a bit longer after my friend flies back (as she’s just going for a holiday rather than travelling) or fly back to oz to work, maybe back to the east coast or possibly Perth, again I’m flexible! Would be great to hear from anyone who would be interested in joining me as I’m too scared to go it alone! Xx
Hey Tracey, I’m also going to Sydney in Jan ‘13. Haven’t been travelling before and going on my own so wouldn’t mind meeting up with people whilst over there! What date are you thinking of heading out? I’m thinking about doing the Oz Experience as I haven’t travelled before, don’t know if your doing that too?x
Hey Tracey,
I’m planning to do a trip 2nd Jan until 25th Jan up the gold coast to cairns before i fly to New Zealand. I don’t know what your plans are, but I’d love to here from you :]

Hey
I’ve been travelling for over two years now, started with Fiji, New Zealand and South East Asia. That took me 6months, and then I booked a flight to come to Aus. Seriously, it is SO EASY to meet people while travelling, not just in Aus but anywhere.
Book the first week or so in a hostel here and you’ll make friends in the first day or two. As soon as someone new comes into a dorm room people introduce themselves. And if not sit in the common room and someone will say ‘hey, hows it going!’.
There’s so many backpackers here it’ll be hard not to find a bunch of people who want to do the same route as you. I’ve met girls who came travelling after meeting on here and they’re ‘BFF’s’ now, but they also didn’t get along with the other two girls they met beforehand. But it doesn’t matter because within a few hours you’ll have met someone else.
Just go for it, don’t be worried, it’ll seem weird that you lived any other way once you get into the flow of it. I’ve been in Aus now for 18months and have just booked a flight to Hawaii and onto Vancouver, from there travelling down to Brazil. That’s how much money you can save in Aus, get a working visa for sure. Sorry for going on :)

Hey Tom,
Have you got any good websites or advice on finding jobs when i get to Oz?
Cheers
Chris
It depends on what type of work you do. I got my data entry/office assistant jobs through recruitment agencies. I didn’t have any experience but I told a little lie on my CV and emailed it to them. Then I phoned them up a day or two later and got an interview, where I had to do a few tests on Microsoft Word/Excel and a words-per-minute typing test. They got me a job within a few days then, and it was pretty easy from then on.
If you have a trade then you should have no problem over here, just post an ad or apply for jobs on Gumtree and you should be sound.
If you’re straight out of high school and can’t blag your way into office work then backpackers do jobs like door-to-door sales, kitchen-hand work, waiter, bar jobs etc…
There’s plenty of work out here, as long as you look for it
