I am not actually interrailing but I want to cycle from Paris to Amsterdam.

Has anyone got any experience of cycling in Europe? Or if you have done a bit of interrailing what did you do for sleeping, hostals/ camping? Does it need to be booked in advance? And also whats the rough daily food budget for these places because I have no idea!

Any info on the countries or bike travel would be much appreciated??

Cheers

Hi Hattie,

I have cycled across some of the Netherlands, and most of the South of England. First of all, you’re lucky - most of this area is incredibly flat but with some nice views, where cyclists are relatively respected.

The cost of food will depend on the type of cycling you are doing - leisurely or performance. Either way a good 3 meals every day is very necessary! £25-30 a day would probably be a good target. On my journeys round Southern England I scraped by on £15, but the Youth Hostels had self-catered kitchens, which is often much cheaper!

Booking in advance - again, in the UK I found that I didn’t particularly need to book in advance, however I did three weeks before just to make sure. Camping and cycling isn’t the friendliest combination - after a long days cycling its rather nice to have a warm room, a shower and a decent place to cook food.

Anyway, enjoy your route, good luck with it all!
