I’d love to do some volunteering, but I’m not willing to pay close to a thousand pounds to shovel dirt for 2 weeks.

Looking for somewhere I can ideally book volunteering directly with the centre, not through some agency like traveller’s worldwide.

Not too fussed exactly what I’m doing or even where as long as it’s in Asia or Australasia.

Hi Robert, you mightlike to check out Shikshan Gram in India.  Yes we do arrange voluntourism journeys.. which do cost money.. but we also welcome volunteers as well .. and this direct volunteering only costs a small amount for your accommodation and food costs.. definitely not a fortune in India.
The folks who run this shelter for homeless children are very special people who were brought up in a shelter themselves.
There are many active progams there.. including a very ambitious project creating the Shaolin India Kung Fu Temple..  which can be joined as a separate training.. this is an arm of the shelter which is designed to assist the shelter to become self sustainable.
There are lots of things to help with there.. you could call me on 0402008801 or simply check the website at http://shikshangram.com we would love to see you.  I will be back there in August,
