Even though it’s a shit hole, the Khao San Road/ Soi Rambuttri area is the best place to meet backpackers in BKK.

Google hostels in those places or search hostelworld.

Good luck!

Hi Leah, I travelled in south east asia on my own couple of years ago and started in bangkok. I really liked the soi rambuttrri area too, quieter than ko san road and still plenty of guesthouses to stay in and just around the corner to go there for a drink.

I found it quite difficult to meet people in bangkok but there’s so much to do and see there I was really busy and didn’t mind so much and then as soon as you get on a bus or train to the islands or going north your gonna meet loads of people.

I actually met another girl travelling alone on the bus north and we travelled together for a month.

Have a great trip :)

I stayed in Nap Park hostel - its a couple of streets down from the KSR so it was quieter but still quite central to the backpacking area, and its a bit more expensive, but it was so easy to meet people as they had loads of activities on.

But everytime I even stopped for a minute on the KSR to have a quick beer or something, someone would talk to me - its ace.

When are you in Bangkok by the way? I’m there in a couple of weeks and happy to meet up if you are there at the same time! I love the place.

Just reading about it gets me excited to head back - only a couple months until I’ll be back there :) I stayed in guesthouses when I was there before as we were travelling in a group - what are hostels like in Thailand? I can only compare to Europe/Aus!

Slightly unrelated.. but from what iv heard ,,overall there are not that many dorm style hostels in thailand? can anyone confirm?

I went with a friend before, so wasnt really paying attention to dorms but from what i can remember, there were some in BKK, and 1 on Phi Phi. but apart from that they were few and very far between..  mainly just guest house rooms for 2 people.. :s

Soi Rambuttri, near Khaosan, there’s a great hostel called ‘My House’...not exactly the best hostel going but it’s cheap and there’s always heaps of friendly backpackers…after checking in solo i never leave that place alone, love it!

Peace
