Hi guys,

I’ve just booked my RTW and it cost me just under £2k.

How much would it cost me for this entire trip if I was to travel for 6 months:
2.5months Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore)
2months Australia
1month New Zealand
1week LA
1week NY

I’ll be doing the OzExperience (~£300) and KiwiExperience(unsure whether to go both North and South, or just North so ~£280 - £600) Would I be missing a lot if I missed of the South?.

I got about £6k to spend (but minus the Oz/WikiExperience, and Equipment/Vaccinations I’ll be left with £5k spending money).

So is £5k really enough spending money for this?

Cheers all.

p.s. I’m flying in Nov, be nice to meet up with any of you guys in any of those countries.

Hiya,

Invariabley you’re going to want to budget around £800 per month for South East Asia, £1,000 a month for New Zealand and £1,250 for Oz.

And yes, before people start jumping on me, you can do it a lot cheaper than that, but that’s a safe estimate!

If you haven’t booked your kiwi experience yet then it’s worth waiting as they often do some really good deals that will save you a lot of money. My boyfriend and I got ours booked a couple of weeks ago (even though we won’t be in nz until December) saving us hundreds of pounds. Keep checking their website for their offers and when one comes up that you like the sound of, book it! I can even work out that a tour covering both islands on offer is cheaper or the same price as a normal tour of just one of the islands. Then you can do both and Warrick won’t have to come and ‘find’ you ;)

I don’t think you can do it cheaper than that to be honest. Not if you want to have any fun that is.

I’d say £1200 for NZ and £1500 for Aus

Cheers for advice guys.

Looks like I’ll be doing the south of New Zealand too :)

BTW Macca, the rough budget you gave me, does that incl the OzExperience/WikiExperience or any other packages/travels, or is that pure accomodation and food?

And JenPen, where did you get offers for KiwiExperience? Is booking through STA Travel for packages bit expensive? http://www.kiwiexperience.com/new-zealand-bus-tours.aspx has a special offer for £300 for both North and South, good deal?

It’s £300 on the Kiwi website, I’d book it through them :) x

Yeah I booked it straight through the kiwi experience website, and that sounds like the same sort of deal that we got, mega savings!

Nice, I’m going to book the Kiwi soon.

I just changed my plan a little and going to miss off S.E.Asia to go:
Aus in Dec,
NZ in Feb.

Do I need to book accomodations in advance even though I’m doing the Oz/WikiExperience, because it’s high season over there between dec- feb. Or shall I just wing it and look for hostels whilst I’m out there…

How much are hostels in high season?

Seriously £800 for SEA? Fuck, I think I’ve budgeted like $25 as a daily minimum, which brings my 11 weeks in SEA to like £1200. Is that a minimum or a super fun happy times budget?

My STATravel Agent told me she did it with £400per month and that incl trains.

She laughed when I told her I budgeted at £1000 per month, and saying I’m defo living the luxury life. 800 is more than enough apparently

I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you go to the south island that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you

Absolutely. An STA travel agent has more budgeting experience in their little finger than the people who run this travelling website…
