Due to my shitty pay and lack of hours I can either spend more time in Oz or more time in NZ as these are my most expensive countries. Based on personal opinion which should I go for? I know that New Zealand is cheaper then OZ so should I base it on that?
I would be going to OZ throughout May and then NZ for June and July or OZ throughout May and June and NZ throughout July. But if I only had a month in NZ would I have enough time to see both islands or should I just see the North island, I’m well aware that NZ will most likely be snowing.
Thanks for any help :)

If you are only going to do one island in NZ do the south island. As for which to do longer in. What are your likes/dislikes? Do you want to surf/be a beach bum see some zoos wildlife etc. Then stay in Aus for longer. If you want to do more adrenaline activities then I’d say NZ although most of these are available in Aus to but at higher prices
I want to do the more extreme activities but the only problem is that budgeting for OZ seems to be getting more and more expensive and I can work out why and it’s eating into my NZ budget x
New Zealand. 1000000%.
I don’t see how I can cut down my OZ budget any more without just skipping it all together, either I am massively over budgeting or OZ is way too expensive :/
What’s your budget for OZ? Are you planning on working there?

You can never over budget for OZ, it really is extremely expensive if your using pounds, as soon as you earn dollars its fine.
Nz to be honest isnt that much cheaper, and in actual fact things like petrol are more expensive currently. but the countries are far to different to make picking one an easy choice.
If your wanting more “extreme” things obviously south island is best, but what are you wanting to do? Bungy prices are going up shortly for example, i paid $399 for 2 Bungy’s and a swing which is cheap!
Good news is that people have left so I now have more hours meaning more money so I think I will now be able to do everything in both countries!! :D

That’s the best option of all! Whoop whoop!
In case you’re still interested in the price difference between Oz and NZ, here are some pretty interesting stats:
“Wine is around 25% cheaper, eating out nearly 20% cheaper, a bottle of Coke comes in a whopping 34% under and a beer will save you 32% over what it would cost in Australia. That’s New Zealand for you.
In fact, over all New Zealand comes in at around 18% less expensive than its nearest neighbour - giving you more bang for your buck, or simply more time for the same money.*

Ah awesome news, WINNING. Just remember as mentioned above- NZ is only slightly cheaper…it’s still very expensive. Plus extreme activities there will add up etc, so make sure you don’t think ‘wayhey i’m loaded!!!’ in OZ then realise you’ve overspent!
PS- 6-8 weeks in NZ is ideal, you’ll have an awesome time if you do that (more time on the south island for sure!)
Im planning on 4 weeks in OZ and 5 weeks in NZ :) I’ve got £5000 for travelling 7 months in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore so maybe if I stay in even cheaper places I’ll be all right :)
Hostels are always the best anyway! But you don’t want to get a real skanky one just because it’s £2 cheaper ...
NZ is such an incredible place, I have never gelt so at home and been welcomed in to so many houses and slept on so many random sofas ... that wasn’t even the plan!
Read the posts on the walls of the hostels and take people up on offers of sharing rides; you just never know what is round the corner. You are going to have an incredible time!
