I was hoping some of you experienced travellers would give me some much needed advice on borneo and orang-utan experiences.
i don’t know where to start looking on wheres best to do it, how long and what sort of prices i should be looking at?
hope you can help
Hi there,
I did some work with the Sepilok Centre in Sabah a while ago (in fact it was nearly 9 years ago) where we were helping look after orphaned orang utans.
I suppose my experience was a little different as it was part of a Kids TV show, but we started off helping feed and wash the orang utans, did lots of trekking to help prepare us for the rest of the volunteering programme, and then helped to build feeding platforms at various points in the rainforest.
We spent a month out there and that gave us plenty of time to volunteer and have a couple of days to relax on the beach at the end.
Cost wise I can’t be of much use, but I’d have a look at the Sepilok Centre site and see what they’re offering.
Good luck!
What sort of advice are you after? If it’s volunteering info I can’t help but I was in Malaysian Borneo about 2months ago so could probably help in some way with travel advice? There is also Bukit Lawang in Sumatra you could look up,plus another sanctuary in Sarawak near Kuching I believe.
