Hi,

So, I embark on my travels come October 5th, and my first destination is ofcourse Bangkok. Im wanting to book my first nights stay somewhere and wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to where is a good starting hostel.
Is it a good idea to book my first night or should I just go from the airport?
Would the hostel pick me up from the airport? (cheeky bastard)
Is it best to start on Khao San road?

All advice would be much appreciated.
And if anyones arounds Bangkok when I get there let me know and we can have a beer. Im a loner traveller you see..

Yeah it’s a good idea to book the first night or two. No more after that though… just go with the flow and with who you meet.

Soi Rambuttri would be better than the KSR itself. A little quieter and better hostels, and only a few mins from KSR.

I personally hate the KSR for many reasons, but if you’re alone there’s no better place to go and meet others, so I recommend it to you. Try the Center Khao San bar if you’re struggling to meet people.

You’re unlikely to find a hostel that will pick you up from the airport in my experience.

Somebody will be along soon to recommend a specific place I’m sure, but I hope this helps in the meantime :)

Definitely look around Soi Rambuttri!

Much better than the Khao San madness! There’s lots of different places for different budgets so have a look around on hostel world etc.

As Lunny said, book the first couple of nights to settle in and then go with the flow!

If I learned one thing, travelling around SE Asia you’re much better off getting to the place and doing a little research as some of the nicest and newest places haven’t even made it to trip advisor etc yet.

I used to just book the first night if I knew I was getting somewhere really late and didn’t want to wander around the streets at night.

To get to where you want to get to from the airport in BKK, make sure you have directions written down and take a taxi from the taxi rank just outside the terminal. I think you have to pay extra 50baht for airport transfers and you also have to pay the motorway toll (around 70 baht). The journey to or around KSR or Soi Rambuttri shouldn’t be more than 300-400 baht.
