I have been saving for the last 2-3 years and will have approximately 11k after flights , insurance , backpack etc.
I will be flying into india spending 3 months there before heading to Nepal for 2-4 weeks and then 6 weeks in china before doing the usual thailand , vietnam, loas, cambodia before flying over to Australia.
I will be looking at working in Oz to replenish my funds but just wanting to make sure this is plenty to keep me tied over for a few months incase i am unable to find work quickly over in OZ
I know it probably sounds illy but i am so close to booking my flight and keep thinking i should leave it another month or two to try and save that bit extra but i would like your advice.
Thanks
It’s a tricky question. You can easily find ways of blowing all your money, no matter how much you’ve got, but that sounds like a good sum to tide you over for a few months in Asia (even with current exchange rates). Once in Australia, you will start eating into remaining savings pretty quickly without a job, but you should still have enough left over not to be in a panic to find work.
Just don’t start staying in 5 star hotels (unless they eat you’re arm off and offer a ridiculous price), travelling everywhere by plane and 1st class, getting pissed every night (and buying the whole bar a drink too) or eating in posh restaurants every night and you should be fine.
Also, don’t start buying loads of kit, gadgets and tours. You’ll only find you’ve got too much and will find cheaper, better options along the way.
i will be staying in cheap hostels, street food in asia and then cooking own meals in hostels once in Oz the majority of times. Seems like i should stop worrying and just get on with it!!

Couldn’t have said it better myself. If we go by what you’ve just said, you’ve got £11k to last you (roughly) 7 months before OZ and to set you up before work. 3 of these months will be in India….
Trust me, you won’t be going hungry or sleeping on park benches (unless you want to, of course) ;)
