Traveling to Oz Aug 2013?!
Just joined this website, still trying to work out how it works, but thought it would be an opportunity to meet people who are traveling around the same time as i ?!?!
would be cool to know some people before i go!

I’m planning on heading out then as well. Probably gonna head to Sydney and do UltimateOz and then either try and get a job there or do my 3 moths specified work for the 2nd year visa. What are your plans? You going out by yourself?

i was planning on going to Melbourne as my sister lives there but tbh I’m tempted by Sydney as it seems a good place to start off!

i haven’t made many plans yet, i want to do as much out there as i possibly can, and see as much of Australia as i can!
initially going for a year but if the funds are willing will also be doing the work to get that 2nd year visa!

I’m also looking at travelling to Australia about then. Intending on working non stop for the first 6-8 months, hopefully on a ranch, and then using the money I’ve made to travel for the remaining time. Can’t wait to go!

Yeah Sydney is my first choice, but Melbourne would be my second choice as I have a friend there! Yeah I’m the same, wanting to see as much of Australia as I can, and I don’t have any set plans either. Going back and forth between different ideas and plans right now! Would be good to talk about our plans some more. Hoping I can find at least 1 person to go out with, even if just for the first couple of weeks really!

i have got my sister in melbourne but she lives there with a job so id love to have someone to actually travel round oz with!

Yeah I’m planning on working for most of the time tbh, traveling for maybe 2 months, just so I can earn as much money as possible, and then if I stay for a second year I can do some more traveling then as well. Well yeah If you want someone to travel with them I am so there! haha I think at the moment I’d be doing some traveling after working for a bit, just because I don’t know how much money I can save up before I get there! lol What about you?
To start with, wherever work takes me haha. I don’t think I’ll have much spending power when I arrive so I need to get straight into work. Once I have enough money I want to buy a car and tour the east coast at a leisurely pace, see where I end up. How about yourself?
Hi I’m going to be doing the same. Heading over and working soon as to save money up and get my 2nd year visa sorted. Getting a van is a great idea and it’s something I regretted not doing in New Zealand. I’d love to get one in Aus.

i thought my saving was going well until i read on here on average it costs around £1500 a month :| so yeah i will be working soon as poss!
you got any ideas on where you want to work? i work with special needs kids and would love to do the same over there but because we can only work on a placement for 6 months not sure schools will want me !
i was planning on doing a package when i got there Joe but after speaking to my sister who already lives in Melbourne she reckons they’re a waste of money as setting up bank accounts etc etc is free and she knows the ropes so now i don’t know whether to just go straight to Melbourne get a job build up the funds and then travel round!

I’m not sure really, anything will do me, just as long as I can earn some money from it! Haha But probably like hospitality or something along those lines as I imagine that’s the easiest area to get these temporary jobs.
Yeah I’m a little bit unsure about doing them because of the cost, but I think if you’re traveling alone, which I will be doing, it’s a good way to meet people, and It’ll just make me feel a little bit better knowing that I’ve got all the important things done!

I’m planning on heading out there to Oz in August next year….although I don’t really know exactly what I’ll be doing straight away. If I can save loads I might just see the sights for a week or two and then get a job.

i read somewhere the minimum wage is $15 which works out about £10 ! cant complain about that !
i wanna look up the most decent hostels in melbourne, see where the hot spots are!

Yeah think the earnings are much better out there, but then the cost of living is greater!
We should make a group here or on facebook, so we can all discuss things more, especially seeing as it seems we’re all going out at the same time and seem to all have the same plans/ideas!

For Melbourne I can recommend coffee palace in St Kilda I had a top time there.
About 17-18 quid a night was decent value for Aus as well
