Hey all,
I’m planning on going to Sarawak next year and will be spending around 7 days there.
What sort of things/activities can i do there?
I’m looking for adventure, loads of culture and tradition but i’m on a budget.
Anyone know any cheap and inexpensive things i can do there?

Thanks in advance!

Bako National Park is meant to be a highlight. We had booked to go but then I got ill so we missed it, but I’ve heard nothing but great reviews. The room was cheap, like a few pounds a night, but you do need to get a boat which I’ve heard can be costly depending on group size and other factors. Worth looking into though.

Also Miri- there’s some cool day trips from there that weren’t mega money. We flew to MULU National Park, did the basic stuff for 3 days (show caves, walking, seeing bats, blabla) and that set us back in all about £100. Worth it in my opinion.

I know there’s meant to be some cool stuff to do with staying in local long-houses, but can’t comment as we didn’t do anything else whilst there (we’re veggie so organised tours/ staying with locals would be a hassle)

Sorry I can’t be of more help! Is Borneo your only destination, or part of a bigger trip? Would be cool to hear what else you’re up to :)

So I did Bako National Park. Bit of a nightmare but well worth going.

A few points:

- You MUST book accommodation before you go. I’d recommend a good week in advance.

- Get down to the pear early and if they offer you a boat? TAKE IT. They work depending on the tide. We turned down a boat as we wanted to share with others to split the cost. Big mistake. We missed the window and waited another three hours.

- Get the boat number and the drivers name. This is important. The park can then get in touch with him to pick you up again. Otherwise it may get stressful getting back.

Enjoy and have fun.
