Did anybody watch this? I’ve seen clips of it but still need to watch on demand.

From what I’ve seen so far think I’ll stop sitting near the front. Still won’t stop me travelling though…

No, not seen this yet but my facebook stream seems to be full of references:

“OH MY GODZ! Totally not flying EVER AGAIN!”

What’s the deal with it? Is it a hypothetical ‘What would happen if your plane crashed’ kind of documentary or something different?

It’s a documentary where they filmed a plane crashing with some crash test dummies and cameras inside. The pilot obv evacuated before the crash. You can go on the channel 4 site and choose a seat, and they tell you if you would have survived that specific crash or not.

Pretty grim!

I might pass, but I’m sure intrigue will drag me in.

Out of interest: Are you dead or alive?

Pieces of me would have been spread far and wide across and desert.

Yes I saw it- was very interesting.

Basically don’t sit near the front of the plane, and if you are about to have a crash (heaven forbid) brace brace position will be best!

It’s scary to think of how many planes we’ll all be on going on our round the world travels! Can’t let it deter us from going for it tho…..

It may be worth pointing out that that they interviewed a guy who survived a plane crash and he was sat in the front row. No two plane crashes are ever the same. For me, I like to be sat somewhere relatively near an exit (but not the actual exit seats) so if I do survive the actual crash, I stand more chance of getting off the plane before smoke inhalation kicks in.

I watched it on playback, they dragged it out a bit didn’t they. Flying is by far the safest form of transport. You’re far more likely to be killed by a made tuktuk driver or an overloaded boat than while flying.

It was a good program for sure, but it was so controlled, no accidents would be identical to that one- but it’s good for overall science and data!

I only became nervous about flying when we got to Asia- some of the turbulence round there is mental, the flights around Borneo and Indo were the worst….! We took off in a serious storm from banda Aceh and I think lightning either hit the plane or came fucking close, the whole plane lit up inside and everyone gasped and i FUCKING SHAT MYSELF. That really scared me, to the point I accidentally grabbed the hand of the man next to me who was just as scared (which then made him worse)

Flying between NY and London can be quite shitty too, had non-stop (bad) turbulence for around 4/5 hours once, not cool.
Oh but actually the funny side of turbulence- I always make a point of how it starts the minute drinks are served, right? Then the girl next to me (who I didn’t know) said something back to me that was funny, so I turned to laugh at her forgetting I had a mouthful of tea. I spat it out all over her face and lap.

I still laughed; I thought it was hilarious.

PS- sorry for the diversion!

Why were people surprised that you’re more likely to die when sitting in the front of the plane?

Ever heard of a plane reversing into a mountain?
