I got my ship and have been sailing for six days. I just over 1300 passangers, sadly thats also the average age of the passangers! :( Gutted!!!
Have to say getting here, through the trainning was one of the hardest experiences Ive had to date. Its was demanding and also phyiscally and emotionally draining. I had to learn to teach Aerobics, Step, Yoga, Pilates, Seminars on detox and Nutrition, New Massage techniques aqnd the whole range of products, in 3weeks. We woke at 6.30am everyday, had one day off and didnt get to bed till near midnight. Bed being the YMCA in watford! I shared a room with 3 other girls, by the time Id left Id had 8 diff room mates due to the company shipping the staff out.
A very intense experience but hopefully worth it. I walked out with some great friends and hopefully some knowledge of the vast task ahead.
Ship life is ok, think I got a raw deal with my passangers and cruise line though. Everyone else seemed to get bigger revenue ships than I did and with youger passangers and livelier crew memebers. Guess time will tell.
We make our money through selling, its all commission based and if I sell nothing than I leave with nothing…pretty daunting! Thus the pressure on us is unreal and unlike anything anything Ive experienced when working in gyms previously. Ive never had to sell to anyone and am finding it difficult at the moment to sell at all.
Its almost like starting from scratch again, everything you learnt and became confident in all that time working now goes out the window and you have to do it there way. Its inly 6days in and I have a 8month contract so hopefully it will be ok soon. Everytone says the first cruise is the hardest, have 4days of this one left!
Will update soon. Sorry am really tired and a bit fluey. We do 12hr shifts with one a half days off each cruise (10day cruises). Will be better next email…..promise! :)
