Yeeeeeah tough ol’ alex!!! hehe i’ll remember that one!
Redhill is only the coldest becuase the temperature gauge is situated at redhill airport!!! And yeah like u said in a valley surrounded by the m25. how do i know?! i wrote an article for the ‘weather eye’ cos i’m soo cool 8)
Yep John, this temporary cooling is something that Britain will feel the effects of! I was watching Richard and Judy ( Quality programme ) and they had two scientists on who claimed that the average flow of the gulf stream had reduced by 30% since the early 1990s. They basically said that if this trend continues which is likely then Britains temp will reduce by 1 degree C. Dosn’t seem much on the face of it but when you consider that the South of France has an average 2 degree difference then you can see that our weather will change pretty drastically.
They also stated that it is feasible for this transition to take place in as little as 10 years although hopefully it will take longer.
I worked in -24 degrees C conditions last night ( in a big freezer ) for 6 hours and it was sooo cold. I nearly got frostbight on my feet and fingers. If Blighty gets this cold during winters then we are in trouble!
Crazy- yes i believe you are right there although on BBC I have seen different temps for Redhill and Redhill Airfield shown. Lowest temp is usually just given as Redhill.
So do you have the honour of living in one of Britains coldest places?
Dan :D
aah well yes then I believe i do have the honour of living in one of the coldest place in britain, so nobody should complain if i moan about the cold!! :P
you don’t need to have studied a degree in all that you just need to have watched “the day after tomorrow”.
for the record. i don’t live in the squalor of Surrey.
Oh yes, the Day After Tomorrow. That wonderfully accurate and completely realistic movie based on sound scientific principals, oh yes. I remember.
you pretty much wrote the plot down and added some long words.
The most extreme cases for this scenario show a cooling of up to 8C in areas at the latitudes on which we sit - much further north than New York, and this would not account for the huge drifts of snow burying the Statue of Liberty, or sudden development of glaciers which that film would appear to suggest.
That said, it was more scientifically plausible than the majority of Hollywood’s output, so I guess it is a snowshoe step in the right direction.
I never said I agreed with Hollywood’s over exaggeration and scaremongering.
Fair enough.
i live in aberoyle, near stirling, nobody lives near me! :(
Oh yes, the Day After Tomorrow. That wonderfully accurate and completely realistic movie based on sound scientific principals, oh yes. I remember.
