Volunteering in India

Volunteering abroad can be an amazing experience, not only for you, but for the animals, communities and the people you work with. Not only will you experience local life that only backpackers and tourists can dream about, but you’ll contribute to society and make a difference to people’s lives.

You can build a school in India; manage a project in Pakistan; or volunteer on a wildlife reserve in South Africa. The volunteering opportunities for you to make a difference are endless… the only thing that’s limiting you is your ambition and imagination.

Volunteering abroad really gives you the opportunity to get to know a country, to become a part of a community and to learn valuable skills for life. You’ll gain a lot more through volunteering in a country than just passing through it...

The people you’ll volunteer with will stay with you for the rest of your life, as will the memories that you’ll make.

Teaching or caring programmes in India

Countries: India
Duration: from 3 Months to 4 Months

India is home to one-sixth of the world’s population, a quarter of whom live below the poverty line. Our volunteers have been working within schools and community centres for many years, providing much needed support, teaching English and caring for and helping people with disabilities. Home to the Taj Mahal, Himalayas and Bollywood, India is a place that surprises, awes and inspires. By volunteering in India you can offer direct assistance to those in need. Your work may involve teaching English to enthusiastic students or helping young people with disabilities to live more independent lives. Our placements in India offer real grass-roots volunteering. Volunteers should be mature, self-sufficient and open-minded. All applicants are matched to placements to ensure that there is a good fit between the volunteer and their host communities. Lattitude Global Volunteering is an international youth development charity that has been sending volunteers on challenging structured and exciting voluntary placements around the world for 40 years.

Indian Himalaya Expedition 2013

Countries: India
Duration: from 5 Weeks

The Indian Himalaya 2013 expedition, as with all British Exploring expeditions, will contain a mix of science fieldwork, adventure and self-awareness that will keep you on your toes for the duration of your expedition. “Little Tibet", is a wildly beautiful mountain high altitude desert region in the Western Himalayas of India. Its unique extreme climate supports some rare wildlife including snow leopards, Chiru, Yaks and migratory Himalayan bird species. This remote region has a rich cultural heritage; Buddhists and Muslims live side by side speaking a local Ladakhi language. As you travel through the region you will probably hear the sounds of chanting from hillside monasteries and bartering in village markets but much of your time on expedition will be filled by a sense of isolation and remote silence.
