Weather in South Africa
South Africa has a very temperate climate, with the average high of 28°, and the average low of 8°, making it a good destination to visit whatever the time of the year. It is important to research the weather before you go, as the weather can vary from very hot in summer, to cold in winter. If you're coming from the UK or northern Europe then the weather will be a lot nicer than you are used to.
The extreme southwest has a climate remarkably similar to that of the Mediterranean with wet winters and hot, dry summers. This area also produces much of the wine in South Africa, considered to be among the best in the world. This region is also particularly known for its wind, which blows intermittently almost all year. The severity of this wind made passing around the Cape of Good Hope particularly treacherous for sailors, causing many shipwrecks. Great dive spots though...
Summer runs from mid-October to mid-February, and this is when all South Africans go on their holidays.
