Crafty Christmas Present Ideas for Travellers
Ideas for cheap, easy and creative Christmas presents
So we have just a few days left until Christmas and you still haven't done your Christmas shopping. Not only that but you're also busy saving for your next big trip abroad and you can't afford to spend your hard earned cash on expensive presents. You don't want to be a cheapskate, but that fluffy dressing gown for your mum and that DVD for your dad could be a few nights accommodation in Thailand!
If this sounds familiar, don't worry. We've got some great gift ideas that won't break the bank and your friends and family will love the personalised touch to their presents. Best of all, you can use your love for travel to create some crafty presents to spread the Christmas cheer.
Make a calendar
Gather up 12 of your favourite photos from your travels and make a personalised calendar. There are lots of websites out there that print calendars and some of them are as cheap as £2.50! Check out vistaprint.co.uk and photobox.co.uk for bargain custom made calendars.
You could pick a theme for your calendar like 'Beaches Around the World' or simply chose photos of you having a great time on your travels. If you took a full gap year, choose a photo from each month of your travels and make a calendar to help recreate your year abroad.
Frame your photos
Everyone loves having pictures around their home, especially if they have a story behind them. If you're on a tight budget, pick some frames up from the pound shop and you can print your pictures off for pennies. If you've got a little more cash to splash then use an online printing company to get your photos blown up or even put onto canvas.
We all have a few photos from our travels that are worthy of being hung on the wall so show off your photography skills and the amazing places you've been.
Bake some Christmas cupcakes
Let's face it, we all love Christmas and we all love cupcakes. What's not to love about Christmas cupcakes? If your baking skills aren't quite up to scratch, buy a ready-made mixture and you can't go wrong. These tasty treats are all about the decoration so get your creative hat on and go crazy with the icing.
Write a mini travel guide
If you've got friends of family travelling to a destination you've already been then write them a travel guide. You'll remember how difficult it can be to research off the beaten path destinations and having advice from someone who has been there and done it before can be a life saver.
Include the places you stayed, your favourite bars and restaurants, any hidden gems you found and the trips you took. Make it colourful by adding some photos and a little map and you'll be guaranteed to get some Christmas present brownie points.
Make a map picture
If you're feeling particularly crafty then get your arts and crafts kit out and make a picture or collage. Use all your old maps, tickets, fliers, guides and photos to make a creative work of art.
