School of Adventure Welcome to the School of Adventure, Otago Polytechnic, New Zealand. Learn new skills on our action-packed, adrenaline-fuelled gap year programmes...Our adventure programmes will increase your confidence, leadership and teamwork skills. You will learn new outdoor skills, acquire greater public speaking ability, and obtain an understanding of yourself and of others in this industry. Whether you’re an expert or an absolute beginner makes no difference! Located on the South Island of New Zealand, in the Southern and Central Otago districts, the school is a fantastic place to be learning new skills in the outdoors with some of the best qualified professional instructors in New Zealand. See New Zealand’s beautiful scenery from the vista of the Southern Alps or back of beyond. Be part of a dynamic team of international students, meet exciting new people and experience New Zealand at its best. We offer the choice of either a winter or a summer programme. Both of these aim to develop students' competency in outdoor risk management. The focus is on developing both personal and technical skills preparing you for work or further education. Personal skills include coping, problem-solving, leadership and communication in difficult and challenging situations and their instruction is embedded in all technical skills training. Summer Courses Technical skills will be season-specific, with the summer programme covering sea kayaking, rock climbing, white-water kayaking, mountain biking and tramping. Winter Programme The winter programme will cover skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, rock climbing, tramping and mountain biking.
