Work as an au pair![]() Au Pair in America Au Pair in America is the largest and most successful au pair exchange programme in the world. The Au Pair in America programme offers 18-26 years olds, the opportunity to live, work, study and travel in the USA for a fun-packed year! Whether you are looking for a gap year job, or just want to work legally abroad, becoming an au pair offers you the chance to experience American life and culture at first hand and allow you the opportunity to study at an America college. As an au pair you will live as a member of your host family, look after their children for a minimum of 12 months to a maximum of 24 months and join in their daily routine at home! Aside from childcare duties, Au Pair in America is an excellent way to broaden your horizons, make new friends, have lots of fun and enjoy the numerous other benefits that come with the programme!Benefits of Au Pair in America Being an Au Pair in America offers you many opportunities such as: - Full board and accommodation with your American host family plus $139.05 weekly allowance. - Study - receive $500 study contribution to spend at a local US college. - Travel - two weeks’ paid vacation and an additional travel month after completion of the programme to explore the USA. - Community Counsellors provide year long support and social activities for au pairs. - Four-day Orientation course near New York City upon your arrival in the US. - Legal J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa with the option to extend for up to a further six, nine or 12 months. - Improve your English language skills and learn about a new culture. - Gain independence and self-confidence. - Make new friends and meet other au pairs from around the world! - Experience American cultural activities - attend a US college, sports events, going to the movies, visiting galleries and museums and much more! Typical duties of an au pair As an au pair your main responsibility will be to care for the children in your host family for no more than 45 hours a week. Depending on their age, duties will vary. To give you an idea, here are some everyday jobs: - Waking up children, dressing them, and preparing meals such as breakfast; - Taking care of the children during the day and babysitting; - Playing games and reading bed-time stories; - Helping with homework; - Driving them to and from school, as well as to any other appointments; Of course not all of your time will involve childcare duties and every week all au pairs have time off to meet up with other au pairs, study, travel, enjoy the culture, and participate in a range of fun activities! We want you to really enjoy your placement and have as much fun as possible, therefore all our host families are carefully selected to match both your and their requirements to ensure that you spend an exciting and rewarding year in the US. Our very experienced staff will support you before, during, and after your year. Don’t miss out!
