Voluntary work on a paradise island
A day in the life of a coastal community rainforest project in beautiful Brazil...Morning
You'll wake (or be woken by Rudy's, our Project partner's singing!) at around 7am in time for a hearty breakfast. You will then be taken by small boat to the tiny community of Trem where your help is needed to improve local living conditions. The families that make up the Trem community currently travel over an hour each day to collect fresh water. You will help on vital work to improve and enhance the communities living conditions by connecting them to a clean supply of running water and encouraging a more sustainable life style
Midday
We will head back to the village for lunch. There are always hoards of children in the main square hoping for a game or a swim in the harbour turning lunchtime into play time!
Afternoon
After lunch you might accompany Antonio, our local forest coordinator, deep into the surrounding Coastal Atlantic Forest where you'll help to restore this threatened ecosystem by re-introducing the endangered Pau-Brasil tree into its natural environment. Alternatively you might take a group of teenagers for an English lesson. Evening
Work activities will slow down in time for the evenings Capoeira - you'll be stretching, kicking and even back-flipping as the sun sets, or you may choose to look on in amazement as the experts show you how it's done. After which you are sure to have worked up an appetite so you'll return to the farm for your evening meal with the team, to recall the day's activities and to plan the next!
