Get paid for doing what you love - share your passion for paddling with our guests, leading taster sessions or river descents, depending on your location. Fantastic UKCC training and qualification opportunities available.

Our Canoe Instructors are the heart and soul of the PGL experience. This role is a great opportunity to share your love of canoeing and the outdoors with our young guests.

PGL Canoe Instructors focus primarily on introducing our guests to the world of paddling. From river descents on the Ardèche to the sun drenched beaches of La Fosca, PGL operates open canoeing in a number of stunning locations.

UK-based Canoe Instructors will also deliver taster sessions in our other core activities, including orienteering, abseiling, climbing, fencing, motorsports, ropes challenge courses and archery.

Skills
To work as a Canoe Instructor you need to be qualified to a minimum of the British Canoe Union (BCU) Trainee Level 2 Coach award or hold your UKCC Level 1 Coach award. We're also looking for enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and lots of energy.

We look for applications from people who can demonstrate the ability to relate to young people. Qualifications are essential but so is the ability to work confidently with young people and their teachers.

This role is great for anyone looking to start their career in the outdoor industry, searching for a career break, a rewarding gap year project or wishing to develop their existing canoe awards.

If you are a keen paddler yet don't hold any formal coaching qualifications, you may be interested in our Activity Instructor / Group Leader positions, where you can build up your personal competency hours during your free time and work towards gaining your BCU/UKCC awards.

Duties
Your typical day could involve a morning on the water followed by an afternoon on the abseil tower, or you could be doing a 3-day descent of the Ardèche. You could be introducing guests to a variety of outdoor activities, from quad biking, canoeing and fencing to climbing and initiative exercises.

Working as an Canoe Instructor offers a great deal of variety, not just because you will find yourself doing lots of different activities, but because you may also find yourself helping the Group Leaders with evening entertainment or liaising with visiting teachers and party leaders.

Training
All of our Canoe Instructors undergo a comprehensive training programme when they first join PGL. You will be enrolled on to our 10 day pre-employment training and selection course. Here you’ll find out more about your role and will be given some core training that will be built upon once at your place of work.

Training courses are free of charge providing you complete your contract of employment with PGL. You will have to pay for your assessment and membership of the relevant National Governing Body.

As a first year Canoe Instructor, you'll work towards the Level 2 Award in Introductory Work in the Outdoors, as the first level of the PGL Apprenticeship Scheme.

Staff Package
We offer a competitive wage, paid monthly, an optional free meal package with on-site accommodation provided, access to training and development opportunities and a free staff uniform that reflects your job role, location and contract length.

Successful applicants are required to undergo an enhanced DBS disclosure, which PGL will pay for. You need to possess the legal right to live and work in the UK to be considered for this position. PGL is committed to the principle of equality and diversity. We welcome applicants from all sectors of the community.
