Volunteering at this project is the ideal opportunity for medical students and professionals to put their skills to good use and gain an insight into African life. A flexible attitude and work ethic will go far at your placement, as will the ability to use your initiative to pitch in wherever you feel you can help. There are several areas where you may be able to help depending on your experience:

Home Based Care
Planning and giving lessons on home based care activities such as: HIV/AIDS, malaria prevention, personal hygiene, drug administration, recording information, first aid, wound care, bed bathing, infection prevention, sexual health awareness, nutrition and digestion, TB and rehabilitation.

Malaria Project
Help minimise the epidemic and protect the local communities by assisting with malaria prevention techniques such as manufacturing mosquito nets and spraying interior walls of buildings with mosquito repellent. You’ll also be helping with malaria prevention research and giving lessons to the local community.

Field Dressing Clinic
This projects help in the afternoons and involves cleaning wounds, dressing/bandaging wounds and making referrals to hospital if further treatment such as antibiotics are needed.

Local Orphan Centre
You can help at the orphan centre no matter what your level of experience. Help with preschool teaching to get the children ready for further education, assist with feeding, increasing hygiene awareness and creative activities in the afternoons.

Local community hospital and clinic
You will ideally need previous medical experience to help with this project as you will be assisting medics to provide primary health care to patients. Non qualified volunteers will be able to shadow doctors and help with admin work or data entry at the hospital.
