Consumer media 1998
From 1998 to 1999 Tom's activities included a lot of radio and a bit of TV work, used as a young (very young, aged just 23) travel preparation expert and motivator. Touring the country doing school talks, the company he founded with Peter Pedrick took it's roots in this period. The gap year media in those days was very simple. Rich kids volunteering or young people backpacking to Australia made up most of the pieces. very dry, very 'exclusive'. Tom's interviews as a travel author and 'new-fangled web community founder' started to change this, bringing an energy and enthusiasm to a very pigeon-holed topic. It was a writer for the Bath Chronicle whose headline about Before You Go read 'No gaps in this guide from the gap year guru' that launched the Gap Year Guru!

Look before you leap
25th May
Zero to 60 quicker than a Porsche 911 Turbo, wearing nothing but an instructor, a parachute, and a thick pair of reinforced pants. Skydiving. Have you got what it takes to throw yourself out of a plane from two miles up? Tom Griffiths went along to Salisbury Plain to push out his comfort zones.

STA Travel GuideMind the gap
Gap between what & what... school and university? Childhood and adulthood? University and mmm... life? Tom Griffiths gives his answer...
Parents often think taking a gap year "... is dangerous, a waste of a year, unaffordable...". You are statistically more likely to be knocked over by a bus here in England than to come a cropper on the backpacker trail.

Gap year advice that gets you started
I hope you all enjoyed the talk. The fact you are now reading this proves you are a 'Doer' and not a 'talker', and that you are seriously contemplating some sort of Gap Year. Nice one!
