Join us for a fantastic overland adventure from trekking to the incredible Mountain Gorillas in Uganda to white water rafting down the rapids of the Zambezi and everything in between! Bujagali Falls, Lake Nakuru, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, the spice island of Zanzibar, Lake Malawi, walking with lions in Zimbabwe and adventure activities at the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls all conspire to make this an unforgettable experience on the African continent.

Days 1 - 5 Our adventure begins as we join our fellow travellers on board the truck and travel to Lake Naivasha. We camp near the lakeshore where Hippos sometimes feed at night! Here you can also walk to Elsamere, the house of Joy Adamson of Born Free fame. You can also hire mountain bikes and cycle through Hells Gate National Park. From here a mountainous drive through the spectacular Nandi Hills brings us to Uganda and finally Kampala, the capital.

You can visit a local Chimpanzee Sanctuary on one of the islands on Lake Victoria. We then continue west through green fertile countryside and small towns and villages where we can see local crafts people at work. We make an essential photo stop where our route crosses the equator!

Days 6 - 12 Next is the Virunga range of volcanic mountains and the rainforests on these mountain slopes are home to several families of Mountain Gorillas. Getting up close to these amazing creatures is a truly humbling experience and one of the highlights of the trip. We will visit the gorillas in either Uganda or Rwanda. If we view them from Uganda there is the opportunity to paddle out onto Lake Bunyoni in canoes and visit some islands or hire mountain bikes to visit nearby villages & schools. From Rwanda you can visit the genocide museum in Kigali, which is a moving and interesting experience.

Oasis Overland Days 13 - 18 We then return to Kampala and camp at Bujagali Falls near Jinja. Just downstream from the source of the Nile, this is a spectacular area and a superb place to go whitewater rafting or quad biking or we can visit a local school. Re-entering Kenya we travel to Lake Nakuru National Park, a soda lake and home to a flock of almost a million Pink Flamingos, as well as Black Rhino, Hippo, Lion, Leopard, Hyena and Giraffe.

Note: Departures in August & September will visit the Masai Mara Game Reserve instead of Lake Nakuru Nat. Park giving the opportunity to view the amazing spectacle of the Wildebeest migration.

Days 19 - 24 Back in Nairobi we visit a Giraffe Centre and there is also the option to visit an Elephant Orphanage, before we cross the border to Tanzania. The Ngorongoro Crater abounds with wildlife: Elephant, Lion, Cheetah, White Rhino, Hippo, Antelope, and Crocodile and if that’s not enough you can choose to go into the Serengeti where vast herds of wildebeest roam the plains. There is also the option, for those who wish to visit a local Masai Village and learn about their culture and way of life.

Oasis OverlandDays 25 - 31 If we are lucky, we may see the towering peak of Mt Kilimanjaro on our way to Dar es Salaam where we on a beautiful Indian Ocean beach. From here most people take the ferry out to Zanzibar, venturing into the narrow bustling streets of Stone Town and its famous spice markets, old slave forts and dungeons. Continuing our journey, we pass through the peaceful Mikumi National Park before entering Malawi with its huge fresh water lake.

Days 32 - 38 Lake Malawi is perfect for watersports including windsurfing, water skiing or snorkelling or the less energetic can chill on the beach. At local craft markets, artisans produce some exquisite pieces of wooden furniture and carvings. We continue to Lilongwe where those on the 38 day trip finish.

Days 39- 40 Travelling south, we cross into Mozambique and head for Zimbabwe following the infamous 'Tete Corridor' which was well known in the days of Mozambique's long running civil war as the 'Gun Run'. We head south to Gweru.

Oasis OverlandDays 41 - 45 We visit a privately run horse and game ranch where you can go game viewing on elephant and horseback. Here too it is often possible to go walking with young lion cubs, an amazing experience! We now travel to the Great Zimbabwe Ruins once the greatest medieval city in Sub Saharan Africa and on to Motobo National Park where you can set out on foot with an armed ranger to see the elusive Black Rhino, amongst hordes of other wildlife.

Days 46 - 50 If available we will then take an old sleeper style train to one of the greatest adventure playgrounds of the world - Victoria Falls. You can see the cloud of spray from 20km away and when you actually get to the Falls, the crescendo of noise coupled with the visual impact is a moment you will always remember.

There is something here for everyone, including awesome grade 5 white water rafting, canoe trips, sunset cruises by boat, breathtaking aerial views of the Falls from light aircraft, microlight or helicopter, abseiling, the Zambezi Gorge swing and one of the highest commercial Bungee Jumps in the world! A great way to end your African overland adventure!
