Kenya & Tanzania

The adventure starts in Nairobi where we meet up and board the truck. Heading south across the border to Tanzania we may see zebra and giraffe as we traverse the savannah grassland. In the Ngorongoro Crater you can see elephant, lion, cheetah, white rhino, buffalo, hippo, antelope, crocodile and pink flamingoes and if that's not enough you can spend a day in the Serengeti where vast herds of wildebeest roam the plains. There's also the opportunity to visit a local Masai village and learn more about their culture and way of life.

It's a long day's drive to Dar es Salaam, passing the snowy peak of Kilimanjaro on the way. From Dar you can take the ferry over to Zanzibar Island for a few days to venture into the narrow, bustling streets, exotic spice markets and old slave forts or just relax on the beautiful white beaches. We then leave the coast and head south through Mikumi National Park where we may see elephant, giraffe or zebra grazing by the roadside.

Malawi, Mozambique & Zimbabwe

We enter Malawi and it's huge freshwater lake, spending a couple of days at a small, laid-back campsite on the edge of the lake before heading further south to a larger campsite for windsurfing, scuba diving, or just chilling out on the beach. There are also villages to explore nearby and kids at local schools always enjoy a visit!

Continuing through Mozambique and into Zimbabwe, we head to Gweru. At a private horse and game ranch, you can go game viewing on elephant or horseback, play polocrosse or even go walking with lion cubs! We drive to the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, once the greatest medieval city in sub-Saharan Africa, before entering Matabeleland and the town of Bulawayo. From here you can go with a local safari company into Matobo National Park, where on foot, escorted by an armed ranger, you should see the rare Black Rhino amongst other game. From Bulawayo, we catch an old colonial-style sleeper train to rejoin the truck at one of the adventure playgrounds of the world - Victoria Falls.

Oasis OverlandThe Victoria Falls or Mosi oa Tunya, 'The Smoke that Thunders', is a mile wide and hurls over 5 million cubic metres of water a minute into the Zambezi Gorge, the setting for the most awesome grade 5 white water rafting. You can also do canoe trips, flights over the Falls, booze cruises or one of the highest bungee jumps in the world!

Botswana & Namibia

Crossing into Botswana, we spend a night in Chobe National Park to see its large population of elephants before continuing to the renowned Okavango Delta. Here you have the chance to explore this unique desert wetland by mokoro (dug-out canoe) as well as on foot to track elephant, crocodile, buffalo and hippo. Driving west, we enter Namibia and continue to Etosha National Park, one of the world's greatest wildlife viewing areas. We can watch game by night at one of the floodlit water holes, hoping to see buffalo, lion, giraffe or the elusive leopard.

From here we visit one of Namibia's Cheetah park sanctuaries before continuing to the Brandenberg Mountains and the Skeleton Coast. At Cape Cross we visit the world-famous Seal Colony and the sight of thousands of these mammals as well as their accompanying pungent odour is remembered by all! Swakopmund is another adventure centre where you can go deep sea fishing, quad biking, dune buggying, dune sledding, horse riding or take a flight over the desert! A one day drive brings us to the Namib Desert and the highest sand dunes in the world - it's well worth climbing to the top to watch an awesome African sunrise. Continuing south we camp next to Fish River Canyon where you can hike for the day and soak up the amazing scenery.

South Africa

Entering South Africa, we drive to the vibrant, cosmopolitan city of Cape Town, backed by Table Mountain. From here we take you to the most southerly point in Africa, Cape Agulhas where you can look for Humpback Whales! The Little Karoo is home to 97% of the world’s ostriches - we take you to a working ostrich farm where you can ride one - hang on tight! Travelling along the scenic Garden Route, you can hike, mountain bike, black water tube or jump the mother of all bungee jumps, the biggest in the world at 216 metres! We drive along the beautiful and remote Wild Coast, exploring empty, shell strewn beaches, lagoons and forests, before arriving into the mountainous Kingdom of Lesotho. We can explore by foot or horse to nearby waterfalls and natural swimming pools. Back in South Africa in the Drakensburg Mountains you can take a challenging hike or just admire the spectacular scenery.

Finally we reach Johannesburg, where you can do a tour of Soweto and Nelson Mandela’s former home or visit the apartheid museum before celebrating our last night.

Travel is in our fully equipped expedition truck and it's camping all the way. Each day is different - sometimes we may spend the whole day driving from one place to the next, sometimes we spend 2 or 3 days in one place eg Victoria Falls, so you have time to bungee, white water raft, horse-ride etc! All these kinds of activities are optional.

Oasis OverlandWe provide cooking equipment, eating utensils and tents, all you need is your sleeping gear and personal stuff. The Oasis truck is fitted with comfortable coach seats and tarpaulin sides that roll up so you can see all that wildlife. And then there's the 'beach', a raised area at the front with mattresses and an open top so you can sit up and get a panoramic view of Africa or relax and top up your tan.  Everyone in the group mucks in with shopping for food at local markets and stores, cooking over the camp fire and cleaning the truck. The trip is led by two Oasis crew all the way, a tour leader and driver and they'll help you get the most out of your trip. Don't worry about joining the trip on your own - many do and you'll soon find you have friends for life!
