Africa :

Starting in Nairobi, we travel to one of Kenya’s most famous natural attractions – the Masai Mara National Reserve. Teeming with wildlife, the highlight of the Masai Mara is the scene of the Great Migration, when millions of wildebeest and zebra make an incredible journey from Tanzania’s Serengeti in search of fresh grazing. Can you spot the Big Five? They’re sure to be close behind!

From the Masai Mara, cross the equator and continue across the border into Uganda and onward to Lake Bunyoni, the deepest crater lake in Africa and the base for the optional Gorilla Trek. After experiencing these incredible creatures up close, we journey to Jinja, where we have the option of going white-water rafting at the source of the Nile, visit a chimpanzee sanctuary on Lake Victoria or simply relax and meet the locals. Then descending into the African Rift Valley, we travel on to Nairobi for the next leg of the trip.

From Nairobi we head on to do an optional trip to Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater before travelling onward to Dar es Salaam and the beautiful island on Zanzibar for a spot of relaxation. Having enjoyed the beaches and soaked up the sun, it’s off to Lake Malawi for lakeside relaxation, or water-sports like swimming, snorkelling or even SCUBA diving.  Victoria Falls is our next stop, where we have a chance to experience ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ up close, and take part in optional activities like bungee-jumping, white-water rafting or flights over the falls. Travelling east to Botswana, we visit Chobe National Park, famous for its abundant elephant herds, followed by the legendary Okavango Delta, the largest inland delta in the world.

Winding southward, we finally enter South Africa, where we visit the Kruger National Park, another of Africa’s most famous national reserves, before arriving finally in Johannesburg – South Africa’s ‘City of Gold.’

You’ll have the services of a three-man team (cook, leader and driver) on the journey, and be transported by a fully-equipped expedition truck. We include road taxes and tolls, national park entrance fees, camping fees, appropriate camping equipment and most of your meals too. For a full list of inclusions, exclusions, and a fully detailed itinerary of the day-to-day activities, visit the Big Overlander page on our website.
