Our tour begins on the beautiful beaches of Cancun with a trip to the famous archaeological site of Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Leisure time is enjoyed at the charming colonial city of Merida, the home of the hammock, before more Mayan ruins at Palenque keep us captivated. We ascend to the mountains for a fascinating insight into indigenous life around San Cristobal and cross the border to Guatemala to get to the shores of Lake Atitlan for breathtaking views of the surrounding volcanoes at Panajachel. Not to be confused with the Caribbean island, Antigua is next on the itinerary for a shop till you drop frenzy at the famous markets. The scenic regions of Rio Dulce and Flores offer a bit of respite before more exploration of the Mayan legacy at Tikal. A second border crossing and into Belize we go, starting in the adventure capital of San Ignacio. Tube through caves, canoe downriver or explore the lush jungle – the choice is yours. Do as little or as much as you please on the fine white beaches of Caye Caulker before crossing back over to Mexico for yet more beach time.
To truly experience Central America we use buses and boats of the public transport system. Specialist local guides will bring the history of the Mayans to life at the archaeological sites we visit whilst your tour leader – a friendly face and dependable source of information - will be with you from start to finish.
