Days 1 – 7:
After settling into to Tanzania, you’ll spend your first week volunteering with young children in Moshi. We work with several nurseries and kindergartens in Moshi that are dedicated to helping children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The projects aim to give older children basic skills in maths and English that will help them in later life, and to help prepare the younger children for primary school, as well as proving a bit of love and care!
You’ll be working Monday and Friday, usually in the morning, and will get involved with a whole host of tasks depending on your experience; help teach the children basic learning skills, such as the alphabet, maths and simple vocabulary, play games, sing songs, and helping to care for the children.
If you feel like helping in the afternoons there are lots of opportunities to help within the community; pitch in with adult Masai or women’s groups, assist with conservation or take a few extra lessons for children who need a bit more help.
Days 8 – 9:
It’s the weekend and you’ll have time for a much deserved rest for a day, you’re going to need your strength to take in Kilimanjaro tomorrow! You’ll trek through stunning wilderness and explore the natural beauty of the base of the highest mountain in Africa, you won’t be climbing to the top, but it’s still an incredible experience.
Day 10- 13:
You’ll head back to Moshi for a few days to revisit the children you got to know in your first week and make even more difference at the projects; more teaching and playing!
Day 14 - 16:
The next few days will be jam-packed with culture and adventure, starting with a visit to a Masai village where you will spend the day learning about the fascinating Masai way of life. Live like the locals for a day and sleep in a traditional mud hut!
Next up, you’ll be off to see the amazing Lake Manyara National Park. Beautiful views and scenery await you along with a range of wildlife; see if you can spot lions, cheetahs, elephants and hippos moving across the plains.
Last but not least, you will visit one of Africa’s most famous natural wonders; the N’Gorongoro crater. Home to some of the most beautiful wildlife in Tanzania, you may come across an even bigger variety of animals; rhino, leopards, antelopes, gazelles, flamingos and cheetahs, have all been spotted in the crater so keep a look out.
Day 17 to 21:
One last chance to see your new friends in Moshi! Spend another few days honing your teaching and game playing skills before moving on to your last pit-stop.
Day 22 – 29:
The last leg of your journey. You’ll transfer to Dar es Salaam and head on to the tropical island of Zanzibar. Here there are lots of new experiences to be had and places to discover; you’ll be able immerse yourself in local history with a trip to the iconic Stone Town and a free ticket to the Stone Town museum, then it’s time to sample the delights of the island. After a memorable trip to the spice market, you’ll have a few days chilling on the legendary beaches in paradise!
At the end of your trip, you’ll transfer back to Dar es Salaam and make your way home, or set off on an adventure of your own!
