This programme is ideally suited to individuals looking to train and work in the winter sports industry, whether you are an school/university leaver or someone looking to escape the rat race and pressures of more regular work. It will equip you with the necessary qualifications and also put you into contact with many of the major employers, so you will have work options as soon as you are qualified.
The Ski and Snowboard Course
This programme is one of the best opportunities to gain your CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance) Level1 and 2 qualifications, allowing you to teach all of the way to high intermediate students. The programme has plenty of time dedicated to working on your own technique, ironing-out any flaws or bad habits. For instance, many students at the start of their instructor programmes have their own style and do not turn to the “efficient” standard required by the examiner, so having these sessions dedicated to your technique is a real head start.
In addition to this, during these sessions you will learn the correct terminology and teaching methods used to demonstrate the required skills, so every moment on the mountain will be a full learning experience.
The Qualification
There are 2 main qualifications you will be looking to complete during this ski instructor programme –CSIA Level 1 and 2.
These are the Canadian equivalent of Ski Instructor qualifications and are recognised worldwide, allowing you to seek employment in ski schools in Europe, North America and Australasia.
Location
Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, Canada
Accommodation and Meals
All accommodation is included in the programme, in a pleasant hostel in the Comox Valley. You will stay in shared dormitory-style rooms with other students from your course. The hostel is fully furnished, with cooking and washing facilities and all of the necessary modern conveniences.
Some meals are included. On scheduled training days, you will receive a self-serve breakfast and in the evenings you get a hearty meal. Students are encouraged to cater for themselves for lunch and on non-scheduled days, budgeting approximately £20-30/week self-catering or £50/week, for a combination of eating out and self-catering.
