Product Details

You'll coach junior boys and girls teams, as well as training and possibly playing for the senior men's or women's teams at the club.

Football is Australia's fastest growing sport. Since the Socceroos success at the 2006 football World Cup, football is Australia's largest participation sport.

You'll work with a football club in the beautiful city of Perth, coaching the boys and girls junior teams in the afternoons.

In the evenings you'll be able to train with the adults’ teams and possibly even play with the teams on the weekends, if you get selected.

On this project we work with a number of football clubs, so if you play at a semi professional standard, you'll have the opportunity to play for a semi professional team.

If you are a social player, you'll be able to play social football at one of the clubs.

As the main football project won't occupy all your time, during the daytime you'll work on the Refugee Sports Project. Here you can coach football and/or a number of other sports for around 4-5 hours every day, leaving your evenings free to coach and train with the cricket team.

The Football Project:
You'll work at a football club located close to the city centre of Perth. The clubs we work with have a large number of boys and girls junior teams which you will coach, as well as a large number of male and female teams. You'll also have the opportunity to coach, train with and possibly play for these teams, if you get selected.

You'll work with a number of male and female junior teams at the clubs, and these teams fall into the following categories:
  • 6 – 8 year old teams (Rooball Soccer, as they call it in Australia)
  • Under 8s – under 16s (a mixture of males and female teams)
  • Under 18s
If you'd like to also play football on this project, you can do this with a number of senior teams. There is a good mixture of standards at the clubs so there is something for everyone. You could also coach one of the senior teams, if you'd like to.

If you'd like the opportunity to coach the semi professional team, you must be an FA Level 2 Coach, or the equivalent.

If you are a good football player, you'll have the opportunity to trial with a semi professional team. Here are the senior teams:
  • Under 23s
  • Amateur male and female teams
  • Semi-professional team (males)
  • Senior team 45+ (male)
The clubs you will be working at have a great social scene and your club will welcome you with open arms.

The football season and coaching times:

The Football season runs from:
  • Pre season (training only): February – April
  • Football season: April – mid September
Coaching and training are held on every Tuesday and Thursday the times are as follows:
  • Junior training: 4:30 – 6:30
  • Senior training: 6:30 - 8
Games take place on weekends during the season. The juniors play in the mornings - this is when you'll have the opportunity to coach a team, putting everything you have taught them into practice on the field. In the afternoons, as a senior player, it will be your opportunity to play.

Your accommodation is located in the CBD (Central Business District) of Perth, Western Australia. Therefore you are very central, close to the main train station and shopping district.

You'll be accommodated in a centrally located lodge that is friendly and relaxing, making it ideal for long-term stays. You may have your own room or you may share a room with other volunteers. There is an excellent kitchen and storage area for cooking meals and plenty of space to relax.

Travellers WorldwideEntertainment at your accommodation includes a pool table, cheap internet access, arcade machines and cable TV (Foxtel), to name a few. But with all the sunshine Perth has, you’ll be out and about enjoying the many outdoor activities! You are literally a stroll from the Swan River and free CBD transport. Trains and buses are also only a few minutes away to take you to Fremantle, King’s Park or to the many other ‘things to do’! The city centre boasts great shopping, restaurants and pubs or head over to Northbridge for more pubs, nightclubs and multicultural cuisine. You'll get to work via bus, which stops outside your accommodation.

Perth was built on the banks of the magnificent Swan River over 150 years ago and is now a city rich in culture and filled with theatres, art galleries and museums. The city is modern and vibrant - a fun, friendly and 'laid back' place, with clear skies and a sunny climate. Western Australia is locally known as the 'state of excitement!'

Some of its more famous attractions include Kings Park, Scarborough Beach, Fremantle and the Swan River. Fremantle (or as the local’s call it, ‘Freo’) is the city’s port and is rich in history. At weekends you will find markets, entertainment and plenty of alfresco style cafes to laze in.

Perth has restaurants to suit all tastes, but the most popular cuisine is, of course, the great Australian BBQ. Barbeque facilities are abundant in local parks - take your own food and cook up a feast, Australian style!

For meals in local restaurants, a trip to Perth's inner city centre is well worth the effort - it bustles with activity and offers a range of choices of restaurants.
