You'll work with a top club in Perth, Western Australia, and you'll have lots of opportunity to play on the gorgeous beaches of Perth!

Volleyball is a fairly popular sport in Australia and is always being played on the beach - especially in Perth which has some of the best beaches in Australia.

On this project you'll be able to work at one of the top volleyball clubs in Western Australia, coaching the juniors in the afternoons as well as training and possibly playing for one of the many male or female teams at the club.

The club we work with has a very lively social scene and you will be welcomed with open arms.

As the main volleyball project won't occupy all your time, during the daytime you'll work on the Refugee Sports Project. Here you can coach volleyball or a number of other sports for around 4-5 hours every day, leaving your evenings free to coach and train with the volleyball team.

The Volleyball Project

You'll work at a volleyball club training, coaching and possibly playing if your good enough. The club is located fairly close to your accommodation.

The club has excellent facilities and you will have the chance to coach the boys under 18s team. As a coach at the club you may have the opportunity to coach a number of school teams that the club work with assisting the club develop volleyball in the community through working with the existing coaches at the club who go into schools to develop volleyball. You'll also have the opportunity to coach (if you are good enough), train, and possibly play for the senior men's and women's teams, if you get selected.

The junior teams at the clubs fall under the following age groups:

• 3 school teams that are linked to the club
• Under 18s

If you also like to play cricket on this project, you can do this with a number of senior teams. There is a good mixture of standards at the clubs so there is something for everyone.

As well as training and playing for one of these teams, you may also be able to coach them if you're considered good enough. there are a number of senior teams that you can train with and play for:

• 2 senior men's teams
• 2 senior women's teams

Please Note: If you wish to play volleyball on this project and you get selected you will have to pay $60 fees for registration.

Accommodation

Your accommodation is located in the CBD (Central Business District) of Perth, Western Australia. Therefore you are very central, close to the main train station and shopping district.

You'll be accommodated in a centrally located lodge that is friendly and relaxing, making it ideal for long-term stays. You may have your own room or you may share a room with other volunteers. There is an excellent kitchen and storage area for cooking meals and plenty of space to relax.

Entertainment at your accommodation includes a pool table, cheap internet access, arcade machines and cable TV (Foxtel), to name a few. But with all the sunshine Perth has - you’ll be out and about enjoying the many outdoor activities! You are literally a stroll from the Swan River and free CBD transport. Trains and buses are also only a few minutes away to take you to Fremantle, King’s Park or to the many other ‘things to do’! The city centre boasts great shopping, restaurants and pubs or head over to Northbridge for more pubs, nightclubs and multicultural cuisine. You'll get to work via bus, which stops outside your accommodation.

Perth was built on the banks of the magnificent Swan River over 150 years ago and is now a city rich in culture and filled with theatres, art galleries and museums. The city is modern and vibrant - a fun, friendly and 'laid back' place, with clear skies and a sunny climate. Western Australia is locally known as the 'state of excitement!'

Some of its more famous attractions include Kings Park, Scarborough Beach, Fremantle and the Swan River. Fremantle (or as the local’s call it, ‘Freo’) is the city’s port and is rich in history. At weekends you will find markets, entertainment and plenty of alfresco style cafes to laze in.

Perth has restaurants to suit all tastes - the most popular cuisine is, of course, the great Australian BBQ. Barbeque facilities are abundant in local parks - take your own food and cook up a feast, Australian style!

For meals in local restaurants, a trip to Perth's inner city centre is well worth the effort - it bustles with activity and offers a range of choices of restaurants.
